Troubles with add-ons

Unread post by qalaglimm » 2024-07-05, 20:57

1. Epyrus + FoxyProxy Standard

Epyrus silently closes immediately after it tries to connect to the Internet. Without FoxyProxy Standard, it works fine.

2. Epyrus + Enigmail

If Enigmail isn't configured yet, in "Account Setting", click on "OpenPGP Security" - and after that it will show "Singing/Encryption Options..." for all setting, and "OK" button won't working. When Enigmail is configured (f.e. after running Enigmail Setup Wizard and restarting Epyrus), the problem is gone.

I've updated Epyrus and re-installed FoxyProxy, now Epyrus crashes when it tries to check mail.
It doesn't crash if FoxyProxy is disabled.

Well, I don't really provide support for FoxyProxy. So there's not much I can do to help here, sorry. I've never even used that add-on personally, so I have no experience with it.

Hopefully someone forks or fixes the add-on at some point.

I'm not even sure to what extent proxy-hopping is good for a mail client... In fact, it's probably severely detrimental to your security. Your mail servers should be trusted servers, so why not just connect directly to them?

Well, then this add-on should be removed from https://addons.epyrus.org/extensions/

I use proxies to access mail servers that are blocked in my country.
By the way, Claws-Mail allows me to do this without special add-ons, it has settings for proxies just in the account settings.

If it's my responsibility to provide support for the extensions on that site, then we should just take down the whole add-ons site, because I don't support any of them. I only support Epyrus itself.

Is this really what people want? Most of the questions I get are related to add-ons that I know nothing about and have no intention of trying to support myself, and not about anything Epyrus does internally.

My understanding of what was happening when I agreed to put the site up in the first place, was that the authors of extensions would either maintain them, fork them, or they'd simply go unmaintained. I never thought people would start telling me it's my job to remove them or fix them.

That's been the attitude towards Pale Moon itself, whether the NoScript cultists or noobs showing up and expecting an ancient Firefox extension to be our responsibility.

You don't need an add-on in Epyrus to set a proxy, either.
Just go to Options -> Advanced -> Network & Disk Space -> Configure how Epyrus connects to the internet
