Scaremongering Of An Antivirus Program

The usual scaremongering of an antivirus behavior shield. When I do a direct virus scan, antivirus program reports "clean" - quite contradictory. On virustotal.com only 3 engines (two of which are exotic) report suspicion.
So I think it wasn't a problem that I installed Epyrus anyway.
But I would be interested to know how such suspicions can come about!

Well, most virus scanners these days rely on heuristics to detect viruses (notice the HEUR tag), which basically means almost anything that's not commonly downloaded and/or digitally signed will likely get flagged. Epyrus is not commonly downloaded and has no digital signature. Plus, I believe the installer and update MAR also uses 7z packaging, which I think virus scanners really, really do not like. Add all that together, and it's a recipe for Epyrus being seen as malware.

All I can say is... it's your choice whether to believe the virus scanners or me. If you think they're right, then I guess you'll just have to stop using Epyrus to be safe. I can't afford a digital signature, and I can't do much to make Epyrus more popular. EDIT: Not specifically directed at OP, just directed at anyone that reads the thread and is worried... there's nothing I can do to prove Epyrus doesn't have malware if a virus scanner claims it does.

I really wish UXP hadn't introduced 7z self-extraction into the mix. That is strongly associated with keygens and pirated software by the typical antivirus heuristics, and probably isn't doing us any favors. But who knows? By now it's possible the sensitivity has been turned up so high it wouldn't matter what we use. I know 7z in particular was an issue 5 or 6 years ago with triggering heuristics, I don't know if that's still true now.
