Add-on won't install nor remove

Unread post by ag0044 » 2025-01-24, 03:07

I have been using ImportExportTools 3.3.0 for a while. Saw a post here that there was a 3.3.2 version. Downloaded it (newer just HAS to be better, doesn't it?), and dragged-and-dropped into Epyrus (2.1.3 64-bit, Win10).

Now, I have both versions trying to do things. No matter what buttons I click, when I restart Epyrus, the add-ons window looks like the screenshot. Even a re-boot of the PC makes made no difference.

Does anyone have a solution, or an idea, for this, please?

Uninstall both of them after disabling them, restart Epyrus and then install the version you want. Looks like these are 2 separate extensions (as in separate identifiers) with the same name, or the author didn't properly implement upgrades.

Thanks for the ideas, but it makes no difference, when I re-start Epyrus the add-ons list is exactly as posted in the screenshot. No change. No disabling happens, no removal happens.

Only one of them (3.3.0) has any buttons visible, and the other (3.3.2) has no buttons visible. Clicking "Disable" or "Remove" and then re-starting takes me back to where I was before. No change.

I suspect that I'll have to close Epyrus and then mess around with files in the profile. But I have no idea where to start with that.

I tried to recreate the issue by installing version 3.3.0 and then 3.3.2, but all it did was install over the old version. The installed extension file is in the roaming profile folder under extensions. You can get the exact file name of each extension by opening the troubleshooting information under Help > Troubleshooting information.

Thanks for your suggestion. I seem to have resolved the matter.

I got the exact name of the extension from the Troubleshooting information and checked in the Extensions directory of my Profile, after making a backup. It was there and in a Staged directory in under the Extensions directory. I deleted the contents of the Staged directory, which was a single file with the same filename as 3.3.0 and started Epyrus - 3.3.0 was still present, but 3.3.2 had gone.

I closed Epyrus again, and deleted the 3.3.0 file in Extensions. Started Epyrus and 3.3.0 had gone. Closed and restarted Epyrus, dragged-and-dropped the 3.3.2 xpi into Epyrus, and closed Epyrus.

Started Epyrus and all was well, with no 3.3.0, and an installed 3.3.2.

I have no idea why 3.3.0 would not Remove itself, even in Epyrus' Safe mode. Perhaps it had just got its underwear in a twist. Perhaps it was something in my Profile, which is 5 years old. No matter for now, it all works.
