Show Parent Folder

Post by _yup_ » 2025-09-20, 14:55

Show Parent Folder is an extension for Firefox (up to version 57), Seamonkey, Pale Moon, Iceape-UXP and other browsers that support extensions created using XUL overlay technology.

This extension adds a new column for every bookmark in the Bookmarks Manager and the Library windows, where shows location of this bookmark.

This is especially useful, when viewing bookmark search results, where all found bookmarks are shown as a flat list, and exact location of any of it is unknown.

Bookmark location can be displayed as a containing folder name only, or as a complete path.

Enumeration of folders in the complete path can be either direct:

Path direction can be selected in the extension's preferences:

Also in the preferences you can specify how to display folder names that begin or end with spaces, and folders that do not have a name.

Also I hope it will be available soon at https://addons.palemoon.org/addon/showparentfolder/

Note for Pale Moon users:

The proposed extension is an essentially reworked and improved continuation of the ancient "Show Parent Folder" extension.

At the same time original extension is currently embedded into Pale Moon, so a separate extension looks redundant.
But new extension has advantages over embedded one, because it correctly handles folders that do not have names, and also allows visualize leading and trailing spaces in folder names. So even Pale Moon users can benefit from the new extension.

(However, all these improvements can be easily transferred to Pale Moon code.)

Note for Stargazer users:

This extension conflicts with Stargazer v.1.0.*. So upgrade Stargazer to version 1.1
