TextFX

Unread post by moonbat » 2020-08-17, 16:52

Another new extension, this shows a context menu when you select text entered in a textarea or text input so you can apply different kinds of strikethrough effects to it. Link should work once approved.

Thank you for updating the extension, Moonbat.
You're welcome :D
Hope you like it. This one is a little out of the way so not as popular as say Pure URL.

I'm pretty active in another (unrelated) forum site and I found a use for this extension. Didn't think it would but it did. This a keeper. Hope other PM users would appreciate extensions like this no matter how niche.

Other users, best to avoid using this extension on social media sites like Disqus. All my comments with affects applied by this extension got flagged as "spam" for some reason then deleted by Disqus.

That's due to using Unicode characters for the effects that are not part of the standard alphabet for English - spammers often use non standard letters to get around filters. You can use it on Facebook though (via the sidebar, not context menu).

That explains it.

Suggestion for TextFX

Unread post by jobbautista9 » 2021-02-17, 08:45

It'd be cool if I could reverse text using this add-on. It would also be a good replacement for the rdmrev plugin for Chatzilla/Ambassador (http://chatzilla.rdmsoft.com/plugins/). :)

Reverse text in a way different than it already supports? It provides a sidebar so you can easily type and copy text, in addition to changing it directly from the context menu for a textarea.

Yes, like if I type "Moon.", it will turn it into ".nooM", while if I type "eevee", it shouldn't change anything at all.

Different use case - this uses special unicode characters to create these effects that you couldn't do normally by typing alone unless you know all the character codes by heart.
The closest you get is mirrored text.

New release after ages

Changelog for version 2.7
  • Updated max supported version to 33.* (Not that it was needed since the extension doesn't use strict compatibility)
  • Added 2 new effects - Cyrillic replacement and leetspeak.
Cyrillic replacement replaces existing English letters with their Cyrillic equivalents, so for example B is now В in Russian (actually 'v' in that language). Useful to get around word censorship online.
Leetspeak is the (now outdated) way of spelling 'hax0r' style, replacing letters with numerals.

Ah but which variant did you use? ;-)

This one is a simplified version, for eg I don't use |) or |\/| for D and M, just changing the letters that can be substituted by a single numeral.
