Don't know about private windows but so long as you are on a youtube video page (NOT a channel page, or the main page), the toolbar button will be enabled and you can rightclick anywhere on the page to launch. Or you can rightclick on a link to a video or on an embedded video anywhere else (even the youtube main page) and again launch it from there.

It isn't an independent player and will play whatever the browser supports.

Kinda defeats the purpose of the extension, doesn't it? ;)
Though I've tried without success.

i asked because sometimes it is better to view a video fullscreen

can you make PMP available when I select a text which is a URl of a video, for instance when there is only the text
https://files.site.es/83hkt8.mp4
and I select it all, I do not see PMP offering to play it.

For instance in a pastebin https://pastebin.com/VPy3pHCg I would like to select the URL ,right click on it and then watch the video

In which case you use the fullscreen function that is already provided by the video in question! This extension is explicitly for playing it in a window so that you can continue to use your browser for looking at something else.

Yes, this is something to implement.

Changelog for 1.4.3/1.44
  • Fix link detection regex for direct media. This caused the UI to incorrectly become enabled on a few non-video pages.
  • Added a default icon so extension icon remains visible and greyed out in addon manager when it is disabled.

Changelog for 1.5
  • Support for direct <video> embedded tags.
  • Add exception to iframe context menu when it's used on a link. (Fixes Youtube links in the 'Your theme song for today' thread when it is viewed using JustOff's Smart preview extension. A very edge case, but yeah.)

[*] Support for direct <video> embedded tags.
What does this entail for the plugin?

Does it mean that there are now more situations where a particular instance of a video would be compatible with PMPlayer?

Plugin? :shock:
Plugins are entirely different from browser extensions - they are binary components built separately for each browser platform and architecture, and run out of process - Flash is the most well known example. It just means that regular HTML5 embedded videos (as opposed to iframes with embedded Youtube/Vimeo etc links) are also supported now. You can simply embed like

Code: Select all

<video src="https://mywebsite.net/somevideo.mp4" controls width="640" height="480">
</video>
and 'Play with PMPlayer' will show up in the menu if you rightclick on it. If you're asking whether PMPlayer can play any additional formats/codecs than what the browser supports, then no.

I totally forgot about direct HTML5 video support earlier because so few sites I've seen use videos like that instead of just embedding from one of the big hosts.

When I right-click on a bookmark of a youtube video (the bookmark is on the bookmark bar), I do not have an entry to PMP, is it possible to add one ?

Hey, just wanted to swing by and thank you for this add-on :thumbup: It feels quite alien to me (watching a podcast while typing and browsing) but I enjoy it.
