Something's off. Post a screenshot of eMatrix window while on that site?
Edit - ok I see the problem, the site is blacklisted in one of nMatrix's filters.
"One hosts to look them up, one DNS to find them and in the darkness BIND them."

There is nothing I could click to make nMatrix run the site, it would prevent the site from even attempting to load.
In uMatrix documentation, see:
How to get past "uMatrix has prevented the following page from loading"
and Preset blacklist rules.

You can remove the blocking rule via the popup, temporarily or permanently as desired.
For 4shared.com:
Blocked:
4shared-1.png
Block rule is removed. Once the page is refreshed, 4shared will load.

@coffeebreak Thanks, that worked!

It would be useful to show aliased domains alongside the canonical domains. That website is an example: https://arstechnica.com/

Today while browsing normally, I noticed following in the browser console:

Code: Select all

Error: Unmanaged tab id: 21
tab.js:442:19
ηm.bindTabToPageStats chrome://ematrix/content/js/tab.js:442:19
TabContext.prototype.onCommit chrome://ematrix/content/js/tab.js:240:3
bound self-hosted:990:17
vAPI.setTimeout</< chrome://ematrix/content/js/vapi-common.js:40:6
I cannot say for sure what the effect was but when opening a link in the new tab, the tab didn't load the page and stopped abruptly with just the blank white page.

Thanks for the report.
Unfortunately without a way to reproduce it I can't say for sure what is going on. Reading the code only goes so far, especially on tab management which is a part that I know relatively little of.
Just to make sure, did it happen randomly on a website that would otherwise work correctly?

It was random. Another related issue which happens more commonly is broken DDG search results page with only search box and no results, but I guess that's already reported.

Hi Vanilla,
some filter lists in eMatrix are no longer supported or obsolete.
"Malware Domain" and "Malware Domain List" have links to malware content dating back to 2017, they can be replaced by the UrlHaus-Filter list which is more performing and updated much more frequently:

https://gitlab.com/curben/urlhaus-filte ... online.txt

This problem was also reported to Raymond Hill.
The "Hp Host's Ad and tracking Servers" list is deprecated, it is no longer present in the Filter List and uBlock Origin.

Took care of it already. If you still have it it's because this transition doesn't really work that well on profiles with existing eMatrix data.
You can disable it safely.

Thank you.
For Host files it is more efficient and frequently updated:

1Hosts Mini (adblock Plus) - Ads - Crypto - Malware - privacy

You can check in the Filter List.

For eMatrix, wouldn't it be better to use:

Code: Select all

https://gitlab.com/curben/urlhaus-filter/raw/master/urlhaus-filter-hosts-online.txt
Or:

Code: Select all

https://gitlab.com/curben/urlhaus-filter/raw/master/urlhaus-filter-domains-online.txt
See:
https://gitlab.com/curben/urlhaus-filter/-/blob/master/README.md

Regarding Malware Domains and Malware Domain List:

This is a test release: https://gitlab.com/vannilla/ematrix/-/tags/v4.3.1

I need people to check if the new host file appears, both after an update in an existing installation (you might want to export to file the old settings) and in a new profile.
Thanks.

So that didn't go very well...

May I ask why you didn't choose for the much smaller:
https://gitlab.com/curben/urlhaus-filter/raw/master/urlhaus-filter-domains-online.txt
Covers IP-addresses as well.

Well, it's still something. Thanks for testing it out.

Another test release: https://gitlab.com/vannilla/ematrix/-/tags/v4.3.2

The old host files should be deleted now after updating.
You might want to also check if your custom settings are kept, because even though I checked and nothing seems out of the ordinary, I might still have overlooked something.

Thanks.

This works.
And as far as I can see, the custom settings are preserved.
Thanks!

But I still prefer the online domains-based one, as it includes IP addresses as well.

Code: Select all

https://gitlab.com/curben/urlhaus-filter/raw/master/urlhaus-filter-domains-online.txt
It is parsed by eMatrix just as fine as the hosts-based one:

vannilla, probably people need a way to add hosts file URLs of their own. The extension already has the ability to add individual host entries.

I don't really understand your request.
Users can load their own host-based filters, so if they don't like the defaults they can load a new list and disable the ones they don't want to use.

That's exactly what I have done now with the list mentioned above and it works well.

Just FYI:

For uBlock Origin,
@gorhill will implement the removal of both Malware lists and add Online Malicious URL Blocklist as well.

Don't know if that will be applied to the legacy version as well.

[EDIT]
It has been applied to the legacy version.
