This is a thread for any problem you might get with eMatrix (
http://addons.palemoon.org/addon/ematrix/ |
http://addons.basilisk-browser.org/addon/ematrix/ )
To be honest, I doubt this thread will get any activity, which is
good thing, but just in case let's open it anyway. You never know.
coffeebreak wrote:At present it's not possible to search for eMatrix on either site using the sites' own search functions,
regardless if spelled with an "e" or an eta ( "η" ).
Searches on ematrix and ηmatrix both come up dry.
Can this be remedied ?
(in particular for searching with the "e" spelling)
It was fixed just now.

Thanks for fixing the issue initially reported
here.
It works fine now, both spellings.

I released a new version to fix a fairly obscure bug.
https://gitlab.com/vannilla/ematrix/tags/1.2.0
There shouldn't be any issue, but just in case if any of you experience any problem, please report it immediately.
If not, it's fine even if you don't say anything.

Is this a fork of uMatrix? The description is talking about μMatrix, but I’ve never seen uMatrix written like that.

The version with the greek letter is the original name.
It was later abandoned, but later than the version I forked off from, so I kept it and based the new name on it.
In case of eMatrix, the official spelling is with the eta. The 'e' is acceptable only when you can't type greek letters (like me right now as I'm using a different device), or when non-ASCII is not supported (e.g. IDs in the install.rdf manifest.)

I see, thanks. I’m using uMatrix 1.1.4 at the moment and everything seems to be working fine, but it’s nice to have a Palemoon-ready version (especially for new users or new installs).
How do I type eta in bépo… hmmm… η! Found it

(altgr-g then h).

Greetings.
Do you plan to support recipe lists present in uMatrix versions 1.3.4 - 1.3.12?

If you mean lists of filters that can be shared between users, no I won't.
Even though some filters are common between users, ultimately each user has its own way of browsing the web, and blindly trusting another person's filters is a bad idea.
In particular, installing the extension and then adding a bunch of filters without understanding what you are doing, makes things worse.

Apologies for the double post.
A new version is out:
https://gitlab.com/vannilla/ematrix/tags/1.3.0
I had some time to sift through the uMatrix commits since the release of 1.3.2, so I picked the changes that could be applied to eMatrix.
The linked page is the changelog, the add-on sites already have the new version.
If anything breaks, report it here.

Don't need support, just wanted to thank you for the fork. Was the only thing preventing me from moving to Pale Moon fulltime.

Glad to hear that!
Just so you know, if you don't see updates for a long time, don't worry; unlike other browsers, Pale Moon and Basilisk rarely introduce changes that can break an extension, so if no one reports bugs, I don't have anything to change.

Kudos for your work vannilla!
I was still using 1.14 and had no idea this existed (hadn't checked the forums in quite a while

).

Thanks vannilla for your excellent work.
All we need now is someone to fork uBlock Origin and backport all latest features from the WebExt version, gorhill excluding bug fixes seems reluctant to add anything new to the XUL(Legacy) add-on.

Dunno, I don't think the "new features" are anything interesting.
For the most part, they seem to be more convenience functionalities than actual new features.
That's what I got by reading the changelog on GitHub at least.
I won't fork uBlock, by the way. I know you in particular didn't ask me to, but I'll say it anyway just in case, for future reference.

I would have a curiosity.
Someone uses the switch: "Forbid Web Workers"?
Service Workers are disabled in Pale Moon, so the switch only prohibits Web Workers.
Benefits for Raymond Hill:
Note that nuisance coin miners typically use Web Workers, so forbidding web workers globally might be a good idea....
.......blocking web workers everywhere by default should lower quite significantly the probability of falling prey to exploits taking advantage of Meltdown/Spectre vulnerabilities through your browser (assuming your browser is vulnerable).......
https://github.com/gorhill/uMatrix/releases/tag/1.2.0
The extension switch has the convenience to enable Web Workers in a simpler way, as local exceptions, only for any malfunctioning websites.
Compared to the disabling of Web Workers in about: config.

I do that. Doesn't noticeably affect too many sites I visit. I have JS blocked except where needed so that stops a lot of stuff. My email website is one that needs web workers.

Just installed this to replace my old uMatrix 1.1.4, exported my data across manually, and everything is working well!
I've also disabled web workers globally to seemingly no effect, but, I'm not sure if any sites I visit rely on them. Gmail and Tweetdeck were my prime suspects but they seem fine.

Had a problem with vanishing eMatrix icon. I sorta solved it. Disabled a bunch of extensions, maybe 10, I don't really use, and eMatrix icon appeared in the Nav Toolbar, and it persists after restarts. Therefore, at least in my case, it was some other extension(s) interfering. Must be some extension-specific problem, so I don't think this bug is worth spending time on, unless somebody thinks otherwise. Sorry for trouble. Thanks for all comments.
