Weird behaviour when using websites

Post by NishijouTakuhardt28473 » 2026-05-10, 12:12

[bug][/bug](running latest version) for some reason whenever i open a website such as youtube (example) a new window pops up that has something along the lines of

"The address wasn’t understood

Pale Moon doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (abdm) isn't associated with any program.

You might need to install other software to open this address."

the original window with the website does work fine but when i try to use it another window like previously mentioned pops up. its pretty annoying honestly and i'd like it if somebody knew what was going on and could help me fix it. also the URL for this window is

abdm://add?url=https%3A%2F%2Faccounts.google.com%2FServiceLogin%3Fservice%3Dyoutube%26uilel%3D3%26passive%3Dtrue%26continue%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fwww.youtube.com%252Fsignin%253Faction_handle_signin%253Dtrue%2526app%253Ddesktop%2526hl%253Den%2526next%253D%25252Fsignin_passive%2526feature%253Dpassive%26hl%3Den.

Find instructions for your platform on how to to find what application has registered itself as a protocol handler for this. If Windows, you might try searching the registry for this. It's got nothing to do with Pale Moon.

I agree with moonbat when he says this has nothing to do with Pale Moon. I visit YouTube multiple times during the day and evening. I have never gotten any type of message/window you are experiencing concerning "address".

At the time of this post I am using 64 bit (GTK2) linux Pale Moon 34.2.2 running in 64 bit MX Linux 25.1 (Infinity) Xfce. I also have uBlock Origin 1.16.6.1 enabled (turned on) for YouTube.

If this has to do with the AB Download Manager, this "bug" may occur because that program does not offer a browser add-on for Pale Moon. The page says:
You can download the browser extension to integrate the app with your browser.
But only shows links for Firefox and Chrome.

If it requires an extension, then it shouldn't register a protocol handler, and the other way around. Seems like the people making that download manager don't know what they are doing?
If you're registering a protocol handler in the system then you're telling all browsers to use the designated program; that program should be accessible from any browser. If that program is, in fact, an in-browser extension, then a protocol handler isn't necessary and shouldn't be registered in the system, either.

Hi, Moonchild. It was just an assumption based on what little I could find about 'abdm' (never used that program).

Well, either way, a protocol handler, when registered, needs to have an associated program.
