vgmrips.net no audio support

Post by JoeyGreen » 2026-04-06, 01:36

site: https://vgmrips.net
url example: https://vgmrips.net/packs/pack/pier-sol ... ve-genesis
Using Pale Moon 34.1.0 (64-bit)
OS: Windows 10 Pro 22H2 build 19045.6466

The site seem to be using javascripts to play their own custom audio format.
The audio doesn't play on Pale Moon,
but it does on FireFox 149.

Tried to spoof the useragents, but nothing changed.

No discern-able errors/warnings shown in Web Console.

Can confirm, the console is empty but I see that trying to play something loads a piece of WASM. There is probably an error somewhere there that is swallowed and hidden by the site.

It wants an audioWorklet (added in FF76).

Relevant BZ meta: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1062849

Seems to be a W3C standard too since 2021: https://www.w3.org/TR/webaudio-1.0/#AudioWorklet

I do wonder why the reported website needs this feature intended for very low latency audio processing (according to the MDN) though. At the very least there should be an MP3 or Vorbis fallback.
