MyNoise’s white noise generator halts loading before finished

Post by Mæstro » 2026-03-10, 02:28

The affected page is this white noise generator, which is superior to others in that it genuinely produces random noise, not a repeating track.* If I load the site in a fresh profile and click to play, the player appears to load normally, but becomes stuck at ‘greasing sliders … 95%’. The site does not freeze, heat the processor or otherwise do anything odd when the player halts loading.

Code: Select all

Fehler: TypeError: Illegal constructor.

*I use white noise from time to time to drown out background sounds and help me sleep. My ear can inevitably pick up on patterns in looping tracks without even trying, and once I can pick them out, they keep me awake instead.

I keep two Pale Moon profiles, main and side. The main one uses µBlock with scripts and cross-site requests disabled, with manual unblocking as needed. The other has nothing but an advert blocker with EasyList, EasyPrivacy etc. The latter is how I generally test pages for Pale Moon compatibility, and installing further extensions into it (like Modify HTTP Header) would defeat the side profile’s purpose. Configuring Mynoise in µBlock to work in combination with MHH is a bit much headache for me to bother. Since this has uncovered a gap in Pale Moon’s web support and it has become a goal to patch it in the next major release, I am content to wait for v34·2 and use Waterfox meanwhile when I need white noise. I am pleased my report could uncover another way to improve the browser. :)

Ideally your side profile should be factory fresh - i.e. zero additional extensions or changes to default settings. Use it for nothing other than checking if a page works, easier to see if a problem is browser related or just your own setup.

True, but exposing myself to adverts and trackers is a red line, and I lack confidence in my ability to rely on DNS-level filtering. The side profile, as described, is indeed used only for testing purposes. It is far simpler than my main one.

The idea is to just use this profile to open a broken website and see if it renders properly on a pristine setup, not to continue surfing on it for any period of time. If it works, then the problem is with your regular profile, if it still breaks then could be a website or browser issue that isn't specific to you. Probably a private window would help to ensure no ad/tracking leftovers remain even from that one page opening.

You could even set up that secondary profile to always run in private mode. however, some websites do not like to run in private browsing mode.

I can hereby confirm, using the test site, that the audio constructors have been soundly implemented in v34·2. Thank you and well done!

I would like to ask whether there is any way, perhaps in about:config, to increase the output’s volume. When I experiment between them on the test site, with all sliders at their maximum values, Pale Moon’s output sounds somewhat softer than Waterfox’s, and much softer than Chromium’s. I would guess this is simply due to easily altered default settings. Since my personal use case encourages loudness, knowing how to adjust the baseline would be good to know.
