Post by GStathops » 2025-11-03, 19:53

Does anyone facing problems lately with embeded youtube videos?

the last 20-30 days embeded youtube videos/clips throws error code: 15
in web pages that usually works fine , for example

or

Win7 64bit and 32bit user with corresponding Pale Moon arch fully updated
Tested with ABL and eMatrix disabled

Youtube site plays videos fine (for the time being)

I left clicked on the two links you provided and all of the embedded videos in both links are playing for me. But you are using Windows Pale Moon while I am using Linux Pale Moon. Might be the difference.

At the time of this posting I am using 64 bit linux Pale Moon (GTK2) 33.9.1 running in 64 bit MX Linux 23.6 (Libretto) Xfce. I also had uBlock Origin 1.16.6.1 enabled for those sites.

The theme I am using is Past Modern Revisited (2.10.2). And I do "not" use any anti-virus programs/applications in any of the two linux distros you can see in my signature.

Same happens for me (and has happened for a while, but I don't use embeds and have google/youtube blocked automatically when it's third party so it didn't bother me too much).

Win 10, PM 64-bit.

I did find these two pages, that could perhaps shed some light on it for those with more technical knowledge:

Win 8.1 x64 here. I have eMatrix installed, with only 1st-party scripts allowed by default. I middle clicked on the embedded YouTube link on your test site to open it in a new tab, where YouTube is then a 1st party. Embedded YouTube then threw an error but offered to watch on YouTube, which I clicked. Then my uTube add-on kicked in and played the video successfully via realityripple.com, which uses no-cookie youtube (embedded)! On top of that the uBlockO add-on blocks about a hundred scripts from YouTube, but it all plays fine.

Pale Moon is a wonder with add-ons to deal with aspiring Bond villians...

Happens to me too (I'm on an old mac). Though I'll probably switch to Linux in a few short months, still this should not happen to anyone, period.

downdetector says youtube got problems
subscriptions page load, content does not load, at least not always

fail on LibreWolf 116 and works on PM and Thorium 122

disabling uBlock does not help
disabling my personal HOSTS did fix it, a little bit

so they working again on adblocking and their chrome sheit

I went to those two links again and again, all the videos play for me without any problems. Especially all the embedded videos on the first link.

I am still using 64 bit linux Pale Moon (GTK) 33.9.1 running in 64 bit MX Linux 23.6 (Libretto) Xfce at the time of this posting. I will add I do "not" have a YouTube account.

Maybe if you have a YT account, this might be another consideration why these videos do not play and/or throw error codes.

Thanks for the heads up ..
Thing is that videos are generic-informative and in no way , age or country restricted , especially in these mentioned sites.
And no , i dont have a YT Account ,,
Problem is that YT videos dont work on ALL sites that embeds them ..
In 2 Win7 PC's (same network)
Didn't have this problem before ,, i cannot pinpoint when exactly started (i mean after some updated addon or main program)

I will play with some settings ...

If you're using a Youtube playback/redirect script (e.g. Vorapis) then that may interfere with embedded videos on other sites too.

I have an account, and it still doesn't work.

I am using two greasemonkey scripts to return dislikes and bypass age restriction (which is silly, because my account itself is old enough).

I'm also using a few uBO filters:

Code: Select all

www.youtube.com##ytd-reel-shelf-renderer.ytd-item-section-renderer.style-scope
www.youtube.com###items > ytd-reel-shelf-renderer.ytd-structured-description-content-renderer.style-scope

www.youtube.com###fulfilled-layout > .ytd-ad-slot-renderer.style-scope
www.youtube.com###donation-shelf
www.youtube.com##ytd-merch-shelf-renderer.ytd-watch-flexy.style-scope
www.youtube.com###middle-row > .ytd-watch-metadata.style-scope
www.youtube.com##.ytd-watch-flexy.style-scope > .ytd-info-panel-container-renderer.style-scope

I verified that for me, using the Vorapis userscript breaks YT embeds on that page (just shows black, not the error given) -- if I disable it, the embeds display and work as-intended. This is with ABL with a bunch of filters enabled.

Thank you Moonchild
I dont use Vorapis project... but i think i got it..
"Culprit" lies in eMatrix setting "Spoof HTTP referrer string of third-party requests"
Having disabled globally in generic eMatrix settings solves the problem ,, embeded YT videos
on all sites that i visit , appeared again without error and playable.

Yeah, spoofing referrers isn't recommended for normal use.
It's one of those "if you insist..." options that provides marginal cross-site privacy at the cost of a lot of breakage.

Yup. Confirmed working with it disabled.

..of course google wants to know where you're coming from, and where you're going.. Thankfully I've set Pure URL to strip the "si" tracking parameter at least.

Referrers are not all that useful for tracking. But of course Google does want to know what the site is that is trying to embed their bandwidth-using media, so it makes perfect sense that they block spoofed requests. Same reason a referrer check is perfectly normal for downloads, to make sure other sites aren't hotlinking and stealing your server bandwidth.

That is one of the ways it can be used, yes, which google will be quick to point out. But it's not the only one, and it is google, so lets not kid ourselves that they're not using as a part of data profiles as well.
