Re: youtubes ui is broken in some places
Could you post some links that showcase this? I've never heard of, or used I think, the miniplayer.
I also dislike shorts, but they seem to play fine-ish for me. It's just a whole other way to start and stop the vid. You could always use a greasemonkey script or a redirect addon to make all shorts into embeds, and just open them in a new tab.
And of course, I use eMatrix and uBO to shave at least a little bit off of the YT bloat. uBO's element picker is very handy here.

Sounds like the combination of your version of Pale Moon + Youtube is allergic to your specific hardware. I have some problems too, but completely different ones. This should be hardware dependent.

Re: youtubes ui is broken in some places
I have the same experience, but not on all YouTube videos. It started about a version or so before the newest version of Pale Moon (33.9.0.1). I imagine YouTube wants the Chrome browser for their site since YT is owned by Google. I am only guessing since I do not run any browsers which are forks of Chrome.
BTW, I am using 64 bit linux Pale Moon (GTK2). I do not think it is hardware related since I have five "different models" of computers (2 desktop towers, 3 laptops). They are all different models to one another.
MX Linux 25 (Xfinity) Xfce w/Pale Moon, Waterfox, Firefox
Linux Debian 13.1 (Trixie) Xfce w/Pale Moon, Waterfox, Firefox

How does one get the/a "miniplayer"? I only use the main ..theater? mode. Where it takes up "half" the screen and shows the side-feed and the title, views, etc, below. And the occasional embedded view.trashy wrote: ↑2025-10-05, 23:10i could be misunderstanding the question but i posted pictures of the issuesGemmaugr wrote: ↑2025-10-04, 20:52Could you post some links that showcase this? To get to the bottom of your wonky shorts though, you should post some more info;

Re: youtubes ui is broken in some places
I get the same issue as OP with a fresh profile of 33.9.0.1 Windows 11 x64. The shorts do play but look wrong (the video shouldn't take almost the entire viewport), and the miniplayer (whose button should be visible in the video player UI but isn't for some reason, it can still be triggered by pressing I though. Alternatively you can open a video from a playlist and then click away to something that isn't a video like the homepage or your subscriptions so that the video continues playing in the background via a miniplayer) doesn't go away when you return back to the video. Looking at the devtools web console it might be due to the JavaScript recursing too much...
As a workaround you can use VORAPIS which brings back and expands on the old YouTube design. It should be faster than the bloated redesign, but with the caveats of shorts not having its own UI (instead they're all played as regular videos, which I prefer anyway), creating paragraphs in comments not working (last I checked), no audio volume normalization (which I prefer disabled anyway because it makes my metal and rock music too quiet), and no miniplayer functionality (which I found annoying when I click away from a playlist's video).
