msn.com pages no longer have a scroll bar
This just started with the recent update to 33.9.0.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/or ... 2bab&ei=10
I can scroll with the keyboard arrows, though. Just not the mouse.

Re: msn.com pages no longer have a scroll bar
Sad to hear the overflow:clip thing is an issue on such a big site that definitely should know better. (IMO it really makes little sense to specify it on whole page bodies - what even is the point?)
You may want to make use of the "feedback" button bottom right to report a broken feature (may need to use the arrow keys and space selecting the option from the drop-down as well, there, as mouse clicks don't seem to work well except on chrome clones

I'll try. I'm not up on the technical language, so what should I say exactly? Just tell them that their overflow:clip feature is broken and that no scroll bar appears on their site when it is properly implemented in the browser?

Re: msn.com pages no longer have a scroll bar
It's not necessarily broken, just used incorrectly. (overflow-x set to clip, y not specified)
Just describe the issue you see, and that you've asked for help about it where you were told it was a CSS problem with overflow:clip. Use your own words otherwise.

@ Sessh
I do not want to hjack this topic thread, but MSN is not the only site with missing scrollbars.
Since 33.9.0, there are no scrollbars on The Daily Mail either.

It's fine for me. But they also offer feedback (in the top bar) you can use if you have issues.

Re: msn.com pages no longer have a scroll bar
As a workaround you can use this user content CSS in an add-on like Stylem to revert the clip keyword in body overflow-x:
Code: Select all
@-moz-document url-prefix("http") {
html { overflow-x: revert !important; overflow-y: revert !important; }
html, body { overflow-x: revert !important; overflow-y: revert !important; }
html body { overflow-x: revert !important; overflow-y: revert !important; }
body { overflow-x: revert !important; overflow-y: revert !important; }
html, html body { overflow-x: revert !important; overflow-y: revert !important; }
}

The same problem happens here. I cannot use my mouse wheel to scroll.
Update: Scrolling works when I use my old computer. Is the dailymail using different webpage versions, depending on the useragent?
Update2: When I click on a news article, scrolling no longer works on my old computer. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech ... White.html
There seems to be a difference between a general "index" page and a specific news article.

Update: When I switch to page style no style, the scrollbar returns, and I'm able to use the mouse wheel.

Re: msn.com pages no longer have a scroll bar
That's because the issue is CSS-related. "No style" removes all of the website's own CSS.

I just found something weird. Click on the first picture of a hurricane. There will be a popup of the image. Now press the "esc" button on your keyboard a few times before you click on the X at the upper right corner.
The scrollbar reappears. What's going on?

Keep in mind I use linux Pale Moon.
You're lucky you can get the pop-up image of the hurricane. I cannot even get the pop-up image to show. The only thing which works for me on the DM using Pale Moon 33.9.0.1 is the "arrow keys" on my keyboard. The comments do not even show either.
I did contact the DM and the answer I got from them was the standard stock answer of..........use Chrome. Since I do visit the DM everyday, I just use my backup browser, linux Waterfox 6.6.3, and the DM works with Waterfox.

Re: msn.com pages no longer have a scroll bar
When first visiting the page, just pressing the escape key restores the scrollbar, even if you have not clicked on a picture.

I have the scrollbar on msn.com but not on:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/ushome/index.html
Hitting Escape doesn't bring it back.

No scrollbar indeed, but scrolling works when I press and hold middle mouse button. For more precision, press once and then move mouse.back2themoon wrote: ↑2025-09-28, 16:54I have the scrollbar on msn.com but not on:

I have the same problem, but on another computer the scrollbar is there.
Try a different computer with a fresh Pale Moon profile. You can also try resetting your profile but back up your add-ons, userchrome.css if you have it, user.js if you have it for saved preferences, and places.sqlite file for your bookmarks.

Re: msn.com pages no longer have a scroll bar
You're right. Thank you.
Why would the esc button do that? Esc is the same as the red X "stop" button, right? Does that interrupt the webpage coding error, and then Pale Moon defaults to the normal scrollbar?
Can someone create an add-on that will detect that the scrollbar is missing and then add it back on?
