Has anyone had issues with Twitch.tv insisting on e-mail confirmation codes upon every login?
Now, I haven't used Twitch.tv in a long time. I'm not really into livestreams much. Even back in the latter part of the 2000s, I only watched them occasionally. Call me old fashioned, but if you're going to do livestreams, I'll just take the trimmed, post-stream video recording instead if you please.
However, I happened to find one, particular reason why I've determined that I ought to occasionally log into my account after all of this time.
After going through a bunch of tech support back and forth in order to reactivate my account and have me regain access, I found that it keeps prompting me every single time I log in to use a code sent to my e-mail inbox to confirm that I am me.
It's really annoying. It's not the end of the world, I guess, but I'd rather not have to do that every time that I want to log in (which, in fairness, will not be often at all whatsoever.)
Has anyone else had this issue? Every time that I go through the rigmarole, I am sent a generic e-mail message from Twitch.tv telling me that I have logged into my account from a "new" computer. Despite the fact that it's the exact same computer.

Look for an option or setting called 2FA (Two Factor Authentication) in your twitch account. That's what's causing the extra verification stuff.
I personally hate it and disable it wherever I can. It sadly tends to be opt-out, and not opt-in.

I'm currently in a fix with GOG about just this issue. My old email got deleted because it had a small login time-frame (hidden in the legaleese), and I can't change the email in GOG's settings because it requires 2FA, which requires access to the deleted email. and I can't disable the 2FA, because that too requires the deleted email. It's catch-22.

I'm afraid you're mistaken. I don't have 2FA enabled. I don't have 2FA enabled for anything. I use a flip phone, so as far as I know I wouldn't have any way to even do that. And I wouldn't want to, anyway.

I don't have a smartphone either, and 2FA can be done with both SMS and through email.

Huh. I never knew that. The more you know!
Well, I just checked, and two-factor authentication is not set up on my account. So that's not the issue.
My guess is that it's some security measure on their end when they think a new computer is being used to access an account. But the problem is, that's no longer the case. I've logged in a couple of times since this morning.

There is an appeal to a live stream, maybe like how many people enjoy seeing their favourite band in a club instead of only listening to the recorded album.
Yeah, you are.

About the problem, that's just how Twitch works. It will send you a verify email everytime you login and this happens on all browsers, not just Pale Moon.
Is there a reason for not staying signed into the Twitch website? I only have to enter the code the first time I sign in on a new browser, and from then on Twitch remembers who I am and it won't need the confirmation each time I visit.

Now, you might be able to argue a similar point about live concerts, sure, but Internet videos already have something of a less formal nature to them (compared to, e.g. television, films.) I don't need them to be even less formal when they are already informal enough.
Also, I'm a pretty busy person, and I don't have the time to set up my schedule around when certain people choose to be livestreaming. That would be ridiculous. Let me just watch the video when I have the time and am interested in watching it, thanks.
I like going to see bands in concert every once in a while, but that doesn't mean I'm into livestreams. For one thing, livestreams have from the get-go been much more informal and less polished than properly edited and published videos, and I'm a bit tired of all the hypercasuality these days, to be frank. But that's just me.

...Wait, really?

There's... no way to disable that? None?
I had thought, y'see, that since it suggested that the login was coming from a new computer, if I convinced it that the computer was in fact the same one that I had already been using, it might stop.
It's not the end of the world if it's just how it is, but I'd have much preferred not having to go through that rigmarole whenever I'd like to sign in.
Well, it's only a personal preference, but I don't usually stay signed in to websites when I'm not using them. If I have a website open in another window, that's one thing, but if not I usually sign out when I'm done on a website.

Maybe by reframing Twitch as a return to an older era of entertainment, it's not so bad! For me, YouTube is for information and Twitch is about a personal commitment to the streamer.
Before smart and catch-up TV (and before VCRs) didn't people need to make commitments to watch their favourite show on TV? if you couldn't set aside the time, then you missed the show, that was just the way things worked. Sure, I imagine it was annoying, but it wasn't ridiculous.

I agree that the Twitch conformation code is annoying and feels unnecessary. For a while Discord seemed to do it too, but their login seems more relaxed now, and I rarely need to get an email sent to me. But sadly, with Twitch if you do routinely log out, you will need to get those emails, because I haven't figured out how to stop it.

Twitch streamers can choose to require verification for their channels, and whispering other users can randomly require verification. The developers probably intended to show the prompt every time so you'd "get the full experience" easily and they wouldn't have to deal with an influx of "why can't i chat in this channel" bug reports.

Seems like Twitch did change something since I can no longer watch streams now. It only shows the stamp-sized picture-in-picture properly but normal view is just a question mark.

Yes, Moonchild. I just noted that in a different thread several minutes ago.

I'm wondering if it's connected to the issue that that other thread is about.
