Fidelity.com Needs Custom Override

Unread post by linuxrocks123 » 2024-02-08, 23:54

fidelity.com fails at the login stage by printing "Sorry, we can't complete this action right now." Using a recent Firefox override fixes it. I am using this one, but others likely also work:

Code: Select all

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:122.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/122.0
This should probably be added to the default config.

The custom override no longer makes Fidelity work. It is now impossible to log in.

Good thing we didn't put in the work to add it as a default then, eh?

Unfortunately without an account we can't verify or check what the problem is.
This is why we ask for the info indicated in the Forum Rules box above.

@Moonchild I normally would, but, in this case, I think that would risk exposing confidential brokerage account information, so no.

@Giraffe, I just tried with a completely clean default profile. No worky.

@Moonchild, okay, tried and there's clearly nothing private in the error message, so here you go:

Code: Select all

Error: PASSWORDAUTH:SystemError:5000:Not Authorized
Custom error message that indicates it does not trust your auth. Can't really say more since it would be server-side decisions.
Best contact the website owners and let them know this error.

Mystery partly solved: if I go through a proxy, the error goes away. My IP address is considered super shady for some reason -- I'm always getting CAPTCHAs -- and, I guess, that plus an unusual browser config makes Fidelity not want to let me log in. So, either changing the browser or changing the IP makes Fidelity not ban me. Go figure.
