Tclers' wiki top menus

Unread post by PaleLuc » 2023-12-24, 04:35

This website used to work for me:

https://wiki.tcl-lang.org

Well, it still does, but none of the drop-down menus at the top work anymore.

I had been using palemoon-32.0 (Linux), noticed the problem, just upgraded to palemoon-32.5.2 and the problem remains.

Certainly some new Javascript, which is designed to break browsers every week anyway.

Sorry, I don't know how to capture errors or if there are any.

Can someone please have a look someday?

Merry Christmas!

Clicked on the link you provided. Thanks for that.

I clicked on all of the buttons at the top and all (Tcler's Wiki, Page, Showcase, Tutorial, Articles, Playground, Help) produced drop down menus. Everything under those headings in the menus worked for me when I clicked on them.

Seems the problem is on your end and not with Pale Moon.

At this time I am using 64 bit linux Pale Moon 32.5.2 running in 64 bit linux Mint 21.2 (Victoria) Xfce. I even have uBlock Origin 1.16.4.30 turned on for the site.
Linux Mint 21.3 (Virginia) Xfce w/ Linux Pale Moon, Linux Waterfox, Linux SeaLion, Linux Firefox
MX Linux 23.2 (Libretto) Xfce w/ Linux Pale Moon, Linux Waterfox, Linux SeaLion, Linux Firefox
Linux Debian 12.5 (Bookworm) Xfce w/ Linux Pale Moon, Linux Waterfox, Linux SeaLion, Linux Firefox

Sounds like a script that is needed is being blocked.

EDIT
The script that needs to be unblocked for it to work is ajax.googleapis.com

So it is. NoScript was blocking it so it was my fault.

No, wait. It was not my fault. I told NoScript to unblock all JS and it still didn't work, but NoScript was still blocking ajax.googleapis.com for some reason and I had to unblock it more explicitly.

I don't blame it. I loathe google and NoScript was just doing its job and it was doing it well. I'm glad to see it watches my back like that. I am just disappointed to learn that the Tclers' Wiki requires google JS crap.

But I should have checked it better I guess.

Sorry for the trouble and thank you for the generous attention.

Once again, Merry Christmas.

And this kind of topic thread is a good example of why we don't (want to) provide support for installations with NoScript.

Scripts can be blocked with uBlock Origin, without the threat of uBo mucking up the system like NoScript can.

People should check for a clean profile before asking a question.
Otherwise, volunteers have to look for a non-existent black cat in a dark room.

NoScript didn't muck up my system. It blocked a domain like it was told to do. It did its job. I use it because it works very well. Has been working very well for longer than I can remember. 10 years at least.

I didn't say it did. But I do know what I'm talking about, NoScript mucked up my system a few years back. Completely removing it didn't help, I had to start over with a fresh profile. And if you weren't aware, it has been stated on the forum that no support is offered for those who choose to use it. My unsolicited advice, switch to uBlock origin.

I think my problem was just a case of PEBKAC.

Is there a thread here where you describe the problems you had?

Just one post. It was over 5½ years ago, so my memory doesn't seem 100% correct based on what I posted, but it still was a big enough problem for me to switch to uBo to block scripts instead (and also still wanting to get support on the forum).
