Google search results with left margin filters

Post by njren » 2023-11-01, 18:22

I'm not sure what Google is trying with this unnecessary and annoying eBay-style filters menu on the left margin, but Pale Moon doesn't seem to like it either. Apparently only happens when Google thinks I'm shopping and the search terms have sufficient variables. When it happens using Firefox, it does display correctly...but still unnecessary and annoying.

Win 7 Pro 64 with Pale Moon 32.5.0

I am unable to reproduce what you are seeing, how did you get it to do that?

Perhaps related to this, although the story was from mid-2022:

Another example from today with an additional alert in the console:

Code: Select all

This site appears to use a scroll-linked positioning effect. This may not work well with asynchronous panning; see https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Mozilla/Performance/ScrollLinkedEffects for further details and to join the discussion on related tools and features!
This is happening with a standard search, not Shopping or any other Google bloat.

Solution: don't use Google search ;)

Yeah, Startpage is a great proxy for Google that won't reveal you to them and you won't get personalized results.
