Problem loading https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/

Unread post by Piotr Kostrzewski » 2023-10-26, 21:34

As in the title, I have a problem loading the above-mentioned page in Pale Moon.
Specifically, a specific document which, however, I would prefer to show in a private message to Moonchild if necessary.
It displays on Google Chrome without any problems.
Do I need a PDF extension for this?
Thank you very much for your time.
Have a nice day/evening.
Regards,
Piotr

If it is a pdf file you're trying to open, then yes, you need an extension for this.

It's recommended to open PDF files in its own reader, not in the browser.
Download Adobe's reader (or similar standalone reader) and let the browser "open with" the reader.

I have a PDF application. I received this document in a link from a trusted Person.

That doesn't really make a difference for my recommendation. If you already have a reader, then simply let the browser grab the PDF and open it in the reader.

I understand, but Pale Moon didn't load this document so I couldn't download it.

The browser doesn't need to load the file to download it. Simply right-click the link and select "Save as."

It is more safe to download pdf files rather than opening them in the browser. I should have mentioned that, along with the link for the extension.

(I myself would never open a pdf file in a browser profile I use for banking, purchases, etc., nor do I even have the extension installed.)

I think perhaps the issue is that the PDF is only offered as an embed, which won't necessarily trigger a download depending on how the page is constructed. In that case there won't be a link.

I think a better way to open PDFs directly in Pale Moon, would be to use a NPAPI Plugin that is being maintained, instead of an old extension. If you want to try it, the free PDF-XChange Editor includes one. Make sure to select Custom installation and enable the "Mozilla browser plugin".

I also recommend though to open them in a standalone reader. If you install the above, there is a "Hide all licensed features..." setting in Preferences/Registration, for removing all references to the paid version. It is a great reader/editor btw.

Shame it's only for Windows.

They say here it may work well with Wine?

Will PDF-XChange be ported to Linux?

That's only for the base software, not the NPAPI plugin which will have to be built separately for each platform and architecture. Pale Moon on Linux can't load the Windows version of the plugin; Wine won't help here.
