P M still not usable on Chase Bank for me

Unread post by TwoTankAmin » 2023-09-11, 23:26

I can log onto my Chase account, I seem to be able to poke around, but today when I tried to send a Zelle, the link to make it go would not work. I had to leave the site and return using FF which has always worked on Chase, Citi and Charles Schwab since PM first stopped working properly on them. I would prefer to be able to use P M everywhere, but it is just not possible as far as i can tell.

I keep my PM up to date, in fact I did the latest update today before I went onto Chase.

I run windows 10 updated and have not changed or added any extensions to P M in years.

When I had my current PC custom built, my guy had me DL and try a number of other browsers, but none seemed to be a better option than FF. Chrome and Edge were not in the competition. And and my $2,000+ Apple mini became a paper weight in under 18 months. At least I salvaged the external HD and CD/DVD units, keyboard, speakers and screen. I now use them to connect to my laptop when working from home at a desk. If we think some places hate PM, well Apple is one of them too. But, they hate anything they don't make.

Honestly, it's hard to believe there's anybody left with the idea that Pale Moon even might be suitable for every website. I downloaded a Chrome variant more than a year ago for those times when I simply can't get a functional, operational rendering on any particular site with Pale Moon; if I gotta get to a site, I gotta get to a site. I think Moonchild would be the first to tell you that you need such a browser. Join the club. You can't beat Google, but you can at least poke 'em in the eye by using a different Chromium browser.

Having to use at least two browsers goes back to the days of IE's monopoly. Back then IE simply did not follow web standards properly and corporate websites coded to work with IE would break on then underdog Firefox. Chrome today is IE on steroids when it comes to having a monopoly on browsers, browser engines and web standards (IE only had the first of these).Chrome is the new IE and worse given Google also controls web standards and website frameworks. So I'm surprised anyone thought they could avoid the dominant browser altogether when that hasn't been possible for at least 25 years.

This.

The moment you step outside the current small batch of what are considered mainstream browsers, you are likely a romantic to expect any browser with a miniscule market share, and which the popular javascript framework makers do not test against to then somehow work on every website.

For me, having more than one browser is a positive because no single browser does exactly what I want all the time, and switching to lean into the strengths of another browser is not a weakness, but a superpower.

Are you using the UA Override value of "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:102.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/102.0" for "Chase.com"? (if not see if making this pref change in about:config helps) Note: you could also try changing the references to "102.0" to "115.0" however I'm still using "102.0" and btw, can't say one way or the other whether or not this will impact Zelle specifically as I don't personally use "Zelle", and for good reason, I avoid using any banks 3rd-pary software (imho, it's a potential recipe for disaster using 3rd-party software that banks try to persuade customers to use so that banks, besides saving themselves from maintaining the service, can pass the responsibility of security risks onto the 3rd-party software service).
Off-topic:
Take a look at just a few links on Zelle (there are 100's of pages on this doing a search on the topic):
Zelle fraud cases explode, customers lose millions.
Fraud, scam cases increasing on Zelle, Senate report finds.
Fraud Is Flourishing on Zelle. The Banks Say It’s Not Their Problem.
Consumers Beware: Lawsuit Claims Zelle Users Are Not Safe From Security Risks.
Zelle fraud is rising. And banks aren’t coming to the rescue.

Banks or more than happy for customers to use 3rd-party software as it not only saves them money to not have to support the service themselves that the 3rd-party software provides but they would not be directly liable for security breaches as well.

Fact is, most major banks (including Chase) basically offer their own proprietary service (that provides a lot of, if not most of, what Zell provides) as part of the banks website (and you better believe they remain at all times keenly cognizant of any security risks/issues that might surface that directly involves their own website).

It seems that Chase uses structuredClone but UXP's implementation is not good enough to it.
With a polyfill that handles circular reference correctly, it works.

To test Chase Bank using the most recent PMv32.5.0 update - I attempted two logins prior to browser update with this result (directly below) each time (attempting to login) - Chase message: We're having trouble showing this page right now. Please try again later.
CB problems persist after PM32.5 update.png
So I used the (stucturedClone polyfill) UserScript posted just above by q160765803 - and YES, the website (login) works!!
Chase works with stucturedClone polyfill.png
Hooray!!
Thanks! q160765803 :thumbup:

One problem I've found is that the "Cancel" button for a transaction (as illustrated in the screen-shot at the bottom) that is intended to display a "Are you sure you want to leave?" dialog prompt (as illustrated in the screen-shot directly below) locks-up the browser at that point (assuming a crash does not occur instead) - which can be excited by refreshing the page and then clicking on the former (menu) link (previously used) to restart the transaction process over again from the beginning (in this case, the "Cancel" button option [as illustrated in the second screen-shot] used to cancel a process, apparently needs to be avoided in order to keep from having the same scenario occur again as a result of the "Are you sure you want to leave?" dialog prompt).

Note: Pale Moon crashed a second time while again navigating the same location on the Chase website. There appears to be specific areas of the Chase website that have issues when using Pale Moon (works w/ other browsers however).

Btw, I'm using the "Palefill Web Technologies Polyfill 1.28" extension (FWIW). (should this add-on help in these situations or could it perhaps cause issues instead?)

Your crash occurs in the GarbageCollector:

Code: Select all

JS::TraceKind
JS::GCCellPtr::outOfLineKind() const
{
    MOZ_ASSERT((ptr & OutOfLineTraceKindMask) == OutOfLineTraceKindMask);
    MOZ_ASSERT(asCell()->isTenured());
    return MapAllocToTraceKind(asCell()->asTenured().getAllocKind());  <-** CRASH **
}

Code: Select all

    return MapAllocToTraceKind(asCell()->asTenured().getAllocKind());
56792F80  mov         eax,dword ptr [ecx]
56792F82  and         eax,0FFFFF000h
56792F87  movzx       eax,byte ptr [eax+0Ch]  <-** CRASH **
56792F8B  mov         eax,dword ptr [eax*4+5694CD90h]
}
Maybe another occurrence of the wrong alloc kind?

So then, for the time being, would a browser "restart" (using the Pale Moon button) clear-up the issue for a duration of time (that is, until the issue might once again resurface)?

(if this would help then I'm assuming - closing all tabs and then doing the "restart" is what would be called for...)

Well I have to say - this is very interesting... I closed tabs, did a browser "restart" using the "Pale Moon" button and then repeating the same scenario I reported above (concerning the Chase site) and found that the "Leave" button worked seamlessly - did exactly what it should do without any browser hang of any kind. :clap:

So it would appear this is a dependable method to use to start out "fresh" to avoid the issue(s) discussed in my previous post when using the Chase site. :thumbup:

How long this "good fortune" will last is the question at hand I would assume... (presumably up until when the "Garbage Collector" gets mucked-up again :think:)
