The site of the Italian Ministry of Interior with the election results (https://elezioni.interno.gov.it/eligendo/20220925) seems unfortunately not to work with PM (it does with chrome, sigh). One gets the message "Dati in aggiornamento" (data being updated) but no results. No errors in the web console.

No errors in the web console.
This makes it land squarely in the webmaster's lap to look at, then. if they catch errors to just throw a custom message as they do ("!!! ERRORE !!! 0") then there's nothing for us do.

I think the problem is a request made to https://eleapi.interno.gov.it made with the OPTIONS method that returns a 403 Forbidden error.
This is a matter of configuring the server, since it's likely that they forbid non-GET requests to that specific endpoint, but at the same time it's not entirely unreasonable for the administrators to block non-GET requests, so the question is whether Pale Moon is doing the right thing with the OPTION request or if something else is going on.

Thanks for that bit of research, vannilla.
OPTION is part of the http spec and that has not changed for decades (and we do this according to the spec just like any other browser)

What is more likely in that case is that the back-end server connection determines that "Pale Moon is not a valid client to make this request" (probably UA sniffing?) but once again, without getting any sort of feedback in the consoles there's not much aside from guesswork we can do. You can try adding a SSUAO for that particular host and see if that helps?

Do you mean adding a general.useragent.override.interno.gov.it ? with which recommended value ?
(PS I prefer to do this,or whatever, at home tonight)
(PPS at the last election I used the site, cannot remember when, it did work)

Try with a UA that only shows out the Firefox string, like this:

Code: Select all

Mozilla/5.0 (%OS_SLICE% rv:102.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/102.0
If 102 doesn't work, try 91, then 78, then 68.

maybe even restrict it to eleapi.interno.gov.it which seems to be the only one having issues. so: general.useragent.override.eleapi.interno.gov.it -- and then feed it a firefox UA like Job suggested.

The suggested Firefox overrides don't work on my end.
Anyway, with a bit of fiddling around, I managed to get this error page:

Code: Select all

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">

In fact, it seems the forbidden access is coming from CloudFront rather than the actual interno.gov.it server.
Contacting the webmasters at the Ministero might not help, in this case.

Obviously, this is another problem. OP talked about something else. Now, probably, the site is under heavy load and gives 403 in PM and MS Edge.

eleapi.interno.gov.it returns the same 403 page.
This is a site problem.

You are showing us the exact same problem described in the first post ("Dati in aggiornamento").

My second post was addressed to Kris_88, no 403 page for me.

As for not loading some elements on the site you may take a look at my first post.

  1. tried useragent.override on .interno.gov.it and.eleapi.interno.gov.it with 102 and 91 at no avail
  2. can get the 403 error accessing eleapi directly (whatever it is, could not get its reference looking at the page source, and the reference to cloudfront does not tell anything to me)
  3. site is responsive (not busy) at the moment, only difference with this morning is that the link https://elezioni.interno.gov.it/eligendo/20220925 is being slightly rewritten with a default value (to one of the two Parliament Houses). This is physiological because the scrutiny is over and final results should be available
  4. however the behaviour is the same as this morning, i.e. all buttons and widgets on the map are reactive (changhe region or college or house) but the results themselves are not shown .., the placeholder "Dati in aggiornamento" is never replaced with actual results (try with chrome to see what I mean)
  5. I would like to contact the webmasters, but I can't find any contact for them anywhere. Only contact shown is dait@pec.interno.it, which is the protocollary contact of the ministerial Department and cannot be contacted by normal e-mail (PEC is an Italian-only thing , equivalent to post office registered mail, which can be reached only from another PEC address, which is something you pay. Normal e-mail senty to a PEC address is discarded without notice!)
So thanks everybody for your interest, please consider the thread "locked unresolved". Will (sort-of-regretfully  ) use chrome to navigate the site.

I have to resort to doing this for some sites too.

Even Barclays Bank, a major UK bank has 'gone bad' in the last 7 days. Unless using a chrome-based browser (I elect to use Vivaldi) you can't log into its online service any more. Even the very latest Firefox 105 in its out-of-the-box state won't work because Barclay's own Pin Sentry security code pages are horizontally distorted enough to make them unusable! (And Yes, I have tried contacting Barclays Bank... no joy so far!)

I think this is just the way things are now with Google/Alphabet trying to monopolise the web and largely succeeding. :(

Off-topic:
I've recently confirmed a handful of websites not working with the default FF user-agent anymore, but working with the native one (Gecko too).

Perhaps they are an exception, but maybe it's time to reconsider switching the native as default, or would it still cause significant breakage?

update: looks like the new 31.3.0 strings solved the issues with these websites.
