Youtube Pauses
Hi
Up until recently Youtube worked fine for me with Pale Moon but after the last update (31.2.0.1) a video starts to play then, once the page is fully loaded it pauses. When you press the Play button on the video it jumps a second then pauses again and will not play continuously.
Embedded videos from Youtube seem to play fine. Is anyone else getting this and is there any kind of workaround for it?
Thanks.

Re: Youtube Pauses
If you use Windows, you can try the workaround described in this post (Add-on Version II):

Re: Youtube Pauses
I'm not sure why it would be "until recently" for you because YouTube has suffered from this effect for a very long time due to their scripting on the site. This has nothing to do with actual video playback but rather is caused by an as-of-yet unknown bit of JS that they are using that takes up a large amount of processing time for seemingly no reason (nothing functional for the site anyway! Feel free to speculate if this is deliberate to discriminate or not...) which causes the pause when visiting the website itself.
Embedded videos play fine because there is, as said, nothing wrong with video playback or even the way Youtube delivers video streaming through JavaScript. This is purely a web front-end issue at YouTube (i.e. the actual YouTube website code, not its media content).

Re: Youtube Pauses
Install Greasemonkey for Pale Moon and then install this user script for Youtube. Been working for me fine for ages, plus it lets you further customize and simplify the Youtube interface.

Re: Youtube Pauses
Thanks for all the helpful comments.
tellu-white - I'll give that a try, cheers
nikola_ss - tried it with and without cookies and no joy
Moonchild - I have no idea either but if it ain't broke I wasn't going to question it! useful to know it's the website rather than the videos themselves at fault.
moonbat - That sounds really interesting, I have Greasemonkey installed already but the link for the user script just puts me back to the top of this forum page, could you post it again please? Thanks.

Re: Youtube Pauses
Here it is again. And if you want to block Youtube ads, blacklist the doubleclick.net domain in whatever adblocker you're using, i.e. block all requests to that domain and its subdomains.

Re: Youtube Pauses
Sadly the userscript didn't seem to fix the issue for me, I've installed PM Player and that seems to be the most effective workaround at the moment.
Thanks to everyone for your help

Re: Youtube Pauses
Interesting, happened here for the first time yesterday. It was fine after refreshing the page.
Re: Youtube Pauses
Note that PMPlayer will only work with videos that allow embedding, many of them don't so you'll get a 'this video cannot be displayed' if they forbid it. Usually official music labels and corporate channels do that.
