Unable to play course videos on Udemy using Pale Moon

Unread post by mmkstarr » 2022-08-03, 04:24

https://www.udemy.com

I noticed the last forum post was shut down before it could be solved. I don't know why the admins did this. It is not in the nature of Pale Moon to let blatant errors in their code go by unsolved.
The website works just fine for me (worked*) on Chrome, Firefox, Edge.
I quit those browsers because of their atrocious design. It was killing me.
But it's starting to look like it's inherent in all browsers that there will be blatant flaws.
The console has too many errors for me to reasonable copy paste. Pale Moon won't let me copy paste all of them all at once which is hugely inconvenient and poorly designed.
I would like to be able to self-educate and grow as a human but the technology continues to fail me.
FYI, if you any of you are a Udemy user too: the bit rate test passes, but the video enctryption test fails.
And I think there was something about there being no mpeg codec in Pale Moon. Which is just why.

Thank you very much.
Mike

When using the Error Console, you'd want to clear it first, filter it so that only errors will show (warnings are usually irrelevant), refresh the page, and just copy the errors that come from Udemy.

Here's an error that keeps appearing when I'm in a Udemy course preview:

Code: Select all

Timestamp: Wednesday, 03 August, 2022 03:50:11 PM PST
Error: XML Parsing Error: no root element found
Location: https://www.udemy.com/api-2.0/ecl?client_key=js&client_version=9aa81e7
Line Number 1, Column 1:
Source File: https://www.udemy.com/api-2.0/ecl?client_key=js&client_version=9aa81e7
Line: 1
But this error doesn't seem to be relevant to video playback, and indeed it isn't because I can still play the course preview videos fine.

The previous post at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=26927 was locked because there was no activity. It's just normal housekeeping, please don't assume malice on Pale Moon's part.

Now I have to ask you a question: does it fail to play on course preview videos as well, like in https://www.udemy.com/course/pythonforbeginners/? The video preview seems to play fine for me. Can we get your browser's troubleshooting information (i.e. copy from about:support and paste it in a [ hide ] block)? Have you tried using a fresh profile just in case it's an add-on causing your problem?

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Pale Moon properly supports H.264/AVC, which is the codec mostly used in MP4. We don't support the newer H.265/HEVC, but Chrome and Firefox don't support it either, only Safari and Edge do.

I just played this video, didn't have any problem using Pale Moon 31.2: https://www.udemy.com/tutorial/statisti ... s-toolpak/

Seems to work quite well with Pale Moon in fact.
