Screwfix.com demanding 'modern' browser

Unread post by Giraffe » 2022-07-31, 08:24

https://www.screwfix.com/ is saying that older browsers soon won't be able to order or pay on line. It is accepting FF ESR and Vivaldi.

The funny thing is they are using browser logos from versions they "don't support" XD

I bet it's more UA sniffing going on. try an override.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I've no idea of what to use. I do have UAControl, so can do it easily - if I knew what to put in. Even when I seen examples I've only copied them - some of the elements seem rather strange and very old.

I'm afraid it's trial and error for everyone.
I suggest you start by using a Firefox 102 UA string (latest ESR)

I do have UAControl
You shouldn't be overriding the default user agent string (assuming that old extension even works now). Pale Moon supports site specific UA overrides for this reason, use PermissionsPlus or Sasuga to change the UA for individual sites. UA overrides are for compatibility, never gonna help for privacy/anonymity and will just break sites if you change the global string.

Thanks for the tips.
UAControl does allow per-site changes so should be OK. I've installed Sasuga to try that.
Couldn't find FF GUA in FF so did a search and found
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:103.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/103.0
and changed it to
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 7.0; Win32; x32; rv:103.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/103.0
but still get the same!

Well so far I haven't been able to get the OP's screen -- if i go to the site it just shows up what I assume is normally displayed.

Well, serendipity!
A newsgroup mentioned speed-battle.com, so just from curiosity I tried it. In the results it gives the UA so tried it with FF. Copied FF's UA, went to Screwfix in Pale Moon, used UA Control to paste in FF's UA and it's now OK.
