Using this browser override is working for me:

Mozilla/5.0 (Linux x86_64; rv:95.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/95.0

I was having trouble logging in to Citi today.

I removed (Pale Moon) from the useragent override and bumped the FX version to the current release (96.0).

Mozilla/5.0 (%OS_SLICE% rv:96.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/96.0

I tried several logins (opening and closing the browser). This seems to have worked for me. Fingers crossed! :shifty:

I've just experienced the typical "can't login to citi" problem again. These two useragent strings work for me, now. I don't know how long this will last:

Win7:

Code: Select all

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0
Win10:

Pale Moon 33.0.1, Epyrus Mail 2.1.2, Firefox 115.8.0esr, Thunderbird 115.8.1, and SeaMonkey 2.53.18

I'm posting this not so much in the expectation that something can be done to address the persistent reoccurring Citibank login issues - but rather just in case what I've found might be helpful in this regard in as much as it's at least worth posting just in case it might help in some way. And I know PM support has a lot of bigger problems than the annoying and persistent repeated issues that arise with Citibank.

That said, perhaps this peculiar result I get using "Safe-Mode" can provide clues to the ongoing Citibank login problems.

I had been using the override (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux x86_64; rv:95.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/95.0) that the OP had originally posted that worked from 1-16-22 until today (2-12-22).

When I found that the Citibank Login was once again failing I tried testing in "Safe-Mode" which I'll address further along (see screen-shot below - which is what happens when the override doesn't work and when not using "Safe-Mode" [keeping in mind "Safe-Mode" produces different results]):
Notice the message from Citibank that the login failed the message "Trouble singing on?" (in red) with the suggestion that an incorrect UserID or Password was entered.
Notice the message from Citibank that the login failed the message "Trouble singing on?" (in red) with the suggestion that an incorrect UserID or Password was entered.
after which this page redirects to another login URL (which if used fails in the same way).

It is important to note this behavior (above screen-shot) is when the login isn't working as a result of the Override not helping - because Pale Moon in "Safe-Mode" produces a different result altogether (as explained further).

Before this new (most recent) Override (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:97.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/97.0) was posted by LAR Grizzly as a new working override - once I discovered (earlier today) the former Override (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux x86_64; rv:95.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/95.0) originally posted by the OP was now failing to login today - I tested for this same former (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux x86_64; rv:95.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/95.0) Override in "Safe-Mode" - and what's interesting is the page fails to load entirely in Safe-Mode (the page just hangs). I don't get the screen-shot above and/or the redirect page at all but instead the login never properly loads at all period.

Example of what I get in "Safe-Mode" (page fails to load at all):
The Error Console data is while this login is not loading at all when using "Safe-Mode" (as contrasted to not using "Safe-Mode" at which time the login will return dialog or login successfully depending upon the Override)
The Error Console data is while this login is not loading at all when using "Safe-Mode" (as contrasted to not using "Safe-Mode" at which time the login will return dialog or login successfully depending upon the Override)
I am including in part the errors in the "Error Console" using the original Override that had been working but started failing early on today (using "Safe-Mode" that never loads the login page at all):

So you might say - so what, we've got a new Override that works - which is true - but here's the rub, I still get the same result as above with the "working" Override when using Pale Moon in "Safe-Mode" (see below).

What I did then is apply the new (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:97.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/97.0) Override that was posted by LAR Grizzly today (which currently once again works for the login page) and tested this in "Safe-Mode" again using the new working Override to see what I get and I was not at all surprised to find even using the new working Override the login page will not load at all in Pale Moon using "Safe-Mode".

Errors in the "Error Console" (in part) using the Override that now works (appear to be similar as before) when using Pale Moon in "Safe-Mode":

Since it does seem peculiar that while the login works fine now with the new Override just posted -- the login page won't even load at all in any case no matter what (regardless of what Override is used) when Pale Moon is in "Safe-Mode".

Possibly there is some corollary as to why the login using "Safe-Mode" fails entirely (won't even load regardless of the Override) as opposed to the fact the login works (one way or the other [error or no error]) when not using "Safe-Mode"....

Of course it's helpful :)
As of now there's little else we can do but play cat and mouse when a website refuses to fix these issues and continues to code for Chrome only, while it takes time to implement the relevant feature in PM.

Citibank is requiring PWD changes for users with older Passwords that do not meet their current password guidelines (see screen-shots for new "guidelines").

There were problems attempting to accomplish a password update because the "Current Password" prompt failed to render on the page for the first two attempts but because the prompt did successfully render on the third attempt the password change was eventually successfully processed.

Thought I'd pass this along in case anyone else is required to change their password and they get a "We weren't able to update your password" message for no apparent reason.

Example screen-shots:
Notice there isn't any "Current Password" prompt towards the top of the page (this occurred 2 times before the prompt was finally rendered on the page on the third attempt - see "PIC-3" screen-shot by comparison):
PIC-1 Citibank required PWD change.png
Because of the missing "Current Password" prompt - the Password Change fails (on 2 attempts) even though the password 'meets requirements'
PIC-2 Citibank required PWD with password that 'meets requirements' fails for no reason given.png
On the third attempt the "Current Password" prompt did successfully render hence the password change was ultimately successful:
PIC-3 Citibank required PWD successful 3rd attempt when 'Current Password' prompt is rendered for the first time.png

I haven't had any of these problems with Citi (FWIW).

^ It's probably because you haven't been with Citibank that long (so don't have a password that fails to meet their current requirements)... (not as long as I have for sure which has been over 60 decades ;))

My previous password consisted of just letters and numbers (none uppercase and no special character).

They now require the below and more:
1) No more than two consecutive characters
2) At least one number
3) At least one letter
4) At least one uppercase
5) At least one lowercase
6) At least one special character

You apparently already meet all of these requirements. :)

And I'm assuming when you login you do not get an (overlay) prompt to change your password (as I have been getting for a couple of weeks which I finally decided not to dismiss the overlay but go ahead and update). If you're not getting any required password update prompt when logging in (for the record I'm using https://www.citi.com/login to login) -- you got me! (perhaps it's a rolling release that hasn't reached you yet)

But then we're dealing with a bank that it took 3 login attempts using the same URL to finally get the "Current Password" prompt to render after clicking on the same "update button" (that failed the previous two attempts to render the required "Current Password" prompt) - how doing the same exact thing (using the same exact URL and pressing the same "Update" button on the overlay each time) produces different results is a mystery to me.... Logic tells us, the same code (which is what I must be using each time) should produce identical results - at least that's the expectation in a "normal" world (which of course is quite debatable now days).... :D

I don't get any overlay. This is what I use to log in: https://www.citi.com/login?Promo_ID=SPBL. When I load your link and mine side-by-side I don't see any difference in either.

(Didn't we go through these different log in screens with Citi before?) :)

^ apparently not everyone is required to update their password to the new guidelines they've established for their passwords yet....

^^ As to what occurred in my case having to do with the two initial unsuccessful attempts to update the password when the "Current Password" prompt failed to render on the page that is obviously required to successfully update the password.

Upon discussing this with a communication technician specialist friend of mine -- he suggested a possible reason why it took a few password update attempts for the "Current Password" prompt to display on the banks password update page, which was:
His best guess -- if this is a new requirement from Citibank, then maybe a lot of people were at the time trying to change the password and as a result the server where the passwords are stored was overloaded.

That said however, it would seem to me there would be the expectation that an error would get generated if "password" storage servers could not be accessed due to excess user traffic on the server but then, as I think more about it, perhaps the message "We weren't able to update your password" serves as an "error" message, so to speak, absent details simply based on this very issue of overwhelming that specific server....

And of course, if there are potential issues regarding too much overload on the server then this would be a good reason why in some cases users, perhaps like yourself ron_1, are not yet getting the Password Update dialogue when doing a login in as much as the bank would need to ration the roll-out of the Password Update in order to avoid overwhelming the server where passwords are stored.

Today, after updating from Pale Moon v31.1.0 to v 31.1.1 (32-bit Windows version running on Windows 10 Pro x64, version 21H1), I unfortunately experienced the persistent reoccurring Citibank login issue again. Earlier today, before updating, I successfully logged on to the Citibank website with PM v31.1.0. I use the following useragent override provided by LAR Grizzly in post https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=70&t=27771&p=226667&hilit=citi#p224138

Code: Select all

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:97.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/97.0
The default general.useragent.override.override.citi.com listed below has not worked for me since it was included in the release and I have continued to use LAR Grizzly's override.

Code: Select all

Mozilla/5.0 (%OS_SLICE% rv:88.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/88.0 (Pale Moon)

I should add I updated my Citi password to meet the new password guidelines back in April. And, I use Citi's main webpage to login to the site, https://www.citi.com/

I have an old AT&T Universal credit card and I've had this account since 1990. Citibank merged with AT&T years back and now controls my Universal account. But I do "not" have an online Citibank account. I just use my land line phone and handle every transaction for my Universal credit card with Citibank's automated system.

With that said above, if some of you people are having troubles logging in to Citibank using Pale Moon and do not want to use a different browser other than Pale Moon, can you use Citibanks phone number to get things done with your Citibank accounts using Citi's automated phone system like I do? And it beats having to make new agent overrides for the Pale Moon browser every few months for Citibank when Citibank keeps changing things which affects Pale Moon.

Edit: I just made a "payment by phone" for my Universal card and it took all of four minutes of time dealing with Citibank's automated system. No mess, no fuss and no problems.

Well, after reading your post, I tried to login to my Citi account using PM 31.1.0 and it failed with the prevous useragent string. So, it doesn't seem to be a problem with PM 31.1.1. I updated PM to the new version and it still wouldn't login to Citi. I stole the useragent string from SeaMonkey and it worked (since I could login with SM). It works, at least for now. It also works if you remove SM from the string.

SeaMonkey Removed:

Code: Select all

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0
I'll use this until it doesn't work anymore, then try another!

LAR Grizzly, my experience was different from yours. As noted in my original post, earlier today, before updating to v31.1.1, I successfully logged onto the Citi website using PM v31.1.0 and your useragent override, listed below

Later, after updating to v31.1.1, and making no other changes to Pale Moon, I was unsuccessful in logging onto Citi.

LAR Grizzly, my experience was different from yours.
I did understand your post. That's why I tried to login with 31.1.0. You were able to login earlier, but I wasn't able to. Maybe Citi made the change sometime today. Regardless, the userstrings posted above work for me. Since you are on Win10, you might want to change the "6.1" in the userstring to "10.0".

--Edit--

There might be a clue here. I just tried to login using Firefox 52.9.0esr and it asked me if I wanted to allow Adobe Flash. I wonder if the Citi boys are still using Flash. After allowing Flash, I was able to login. There was no such warning when logging in with SeaMonkey.

I resolved my Citi login issues by updating the user agent override to the latest Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) user agent shown below.

I began banking with Citi for my parents when it was dial-up. I have an account there which is my second bak. My primary is Chase. I gave up trying to use Pale Moon on chase and use FireFox. The same applies to the Schwab site. Using P M on Youtube is not fun either takes so long to load you cannot stop and ad after 5 seconds.

I can still log onto my Citi account using PM 31.1.0 with windows 10 Pro. However, everything loads very slowly. I am using this override general.useragent.override.citi.com;Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:97.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/97.0 I will not DL ver 31.1.1 of PM for a bit more time. I try not to DL updates when they come out I normally wait about 2 weeks to make sure they are not buggy.

I have used Pale Moon for a number of years and finally decided to have a second browser with Win 10.. When I have an issue on any site with P M I no longer try to find out why or to fix it, I just use FF which seem to work OK. I have a similar configuration as I do in P M in that I do not store cookies or history. But I have only one extension in FF- DuckDuckGo Privacy essential.

I really like Pale Moon, but I have lost my will to try and fix specific site issues. I guess I just got too old to want to do this.
