SiriusXM (domain: player.siriusxm.com) fails to play music in Pale Moon

Unread post by Pallid Planetoid » 2021-07-18, 00:02

The SiriusXM page worked in Pale Moon 4-8 weeks ago (can't be certain within that 4 week time-frame it stopped working in Pale Moon - I'd guess at least 6 weeks ago ). Note: Pale Moon update(s), to my knowledge, have occurred subsequent to when the page last worked.

URL: https://player.siriusxm.com/favorites/channels

Error Console results (as a result of page load):
Timestamp: 7/17/2021 4:33:18 PM
Error: The character encoding of the HTML document was not declared. The document will render with garbled text in some browser configurations if the document contains characters from outside the US-ASCII range. The character encoding of the page must be declared in the document or in the transfer protocol.
Source File: file:///C:/Users/Mike/Documents/start/Pale%20Moon%20start-page%20plus.html
Line: 0

(it would seem to me that this one and only error that occurs when loading the page would NOT cause the page to fail to play a Sirius music channel when the page gets loaded as contrasted to when it has played music in the past on Pale Moon)

The same (URL) page currently does work in Firefox.

Tested Pale Moon in Safe-Mode.

Screen-shot:
Would formerly start playing when page loads
Would formerly start playing when page loads
If I click on the "Play" button (illustrated in screen-shot) on the banner at the bottom of the page (which should not be necessary as this was never previously required - only doing this because the page does not play music now in Pale Moon) the button does not appear to work (the "Play" button should not render in "box" when clicked on - which only indicates focus to button due to mouse click) - the page when loaded should simply play music (w/out any user interface required) and/or play if the "Play" button is clicked as well. Note: I do observe the channels switching to new music as they play so the page in this respect is working - it is just the play function that appears to not work in Pale Moon. And btw, I am able to manually switch channels (by clicking them) on the page as well.

If I currently load the page in Firefox - the page starts playing music (on whatever "channel" was previously selected) immediately (just as Pale Moon used to 4-8 weeks ago for this same page).

Addendum: I'm finding out that the "Play" button is required to use to start music (as a result of testing more in Firefox) - however this is incidental since the "Play" button does not currently work in Pale Moon as previously mentioned.

I'll take the opportunity here to add that I had previously cleared cookies for this site in Pale Moon and cleared Pale Moon browser cache as well when previously testing in Safe-Mode (as mentioned).

Also after more contemplation - I can be certain that the site DID play music for Pale Moon 29.2.0 (i.e. the "Play" button did work) and I can be certain based on release dates that version 29.2.1 would be the only update that could possibly impact the website (considering it's the only other release since the time when the "Play" button fails to respond as originally stated), if this helps at all.

As to any further "important information" that "should" be included in a post?:
Operating system: in my sig
Browser version: in my sig
32-bit or 64-bit?: in my sig
Problem URL: included in post
Theme: not applicable presumably but it happens to be "Dark"
Installed extensions: not applicable as the page was tested in Safe-Mode (included in text file below anyway).

As to "Trouble-shooting" info (that I doubt is relevant):

Site works for me, by the way.
Went there, said "start free trial" (or somesuch wording, the "don't pay right away" option) and played several channels without issue (they autoplay).

So.. maybe your autoplay toggle extension is causing interference?

Thanks for testing the site.

Wonder if it makes a difference involving a registered account using "Favorites"?

Thanks also for the suggestion re: "Autoplay" Extension (I wondered about that prior to using Safe-Mode) - it is set to "Autoplay Toggle (On)" and the same SiriusXM site worked in Pale Moon in the past (prior to most recent Pale Moon release). I tested in Pale Moon in Safe-Mode with same result regarding the "Play" button (presumably all extensions not involved).

If there is anything else I can include - please post.

If no other ideas/suggestions - I'll call SiriusXM "Advanced Support" on Monday (their only available M-F) - to see if they've got any suggestions (Chat is all that is available on weekends I guess - which I tried).

Thanks again for the feedback.

Re: SiriusXM (domain: player.siriusxm.com) fails to play music in Pale Moon

While waiting to call support on Monday....

I'm now getting a SiriusXM site script error only when running Pale Moon in safe-mode (screen-shot):
Pale Moon script error in safe-mode.png
(Note: script errors have never displayed when running in "normal" mode [not safe-mode] FWIW)

Here is the full URL (script) producing the error: https://player.siriusxm.com/polyfills.client.bundle.520107d.js (script errors do not render unless using safe-mode FWIW)

FWIW - some of my "favorites" channels will work (play music) in Basilisk while others fail to play with an error (Pale Moon has never displayed an error):
Working Favorite channel example that plays music:
Some channels work fine and play music like this.png
Some other channels get error like this:
Some channels get error like this.png
of course I had to login to SiriusXM first using Basilisk.I understand the two browsers are totally different - I get it!... I'm just posting as an FYI in case it may be helpful.

As I've mentioned all of my 20 "favorites" channels play music (w/out any errors) using Firefox (btw, also tested successfully in Vivaldi as well).

And again, SiriusXM site has worked in Pale Moon ~6-8 weeks ago (hadn't used it for some time)....

Oh and thanks again Moonchild for pointing out (the obvious ) pink "Forum Rules" instructions box on what to include in posts, that is a good place to put it  (if it were a snake it would have bit me!)

There's a relatively long delay when first loading the site, which is where I gather your "script error" pops up? Might happen on considerably slower hardware looking at how much JS sucks CPU during that delay.
All stations play fine for me, including your favourites.

The only change I've made to Pale Moon was to add the "Pure URL" extension (added some time between May and June based on FEBE backup data).

I've removed the add-on but these about:config setting that appear to be related to this add-on (if not so please inform) still remain in about:config.

Is it safe (should I) remove these entries in about:config (presumably ONLY THE TOP 4 LISTED that would appear to be specific to this add-on):
These about:config settings appear to be residual "Pure URL" extension settings that remain after removing the add-on

Just thinking that if this is the only change I've made that perhaps this could be contributing to the problems I have with the SiriusXM site in my case (since the issue appears to be specific to me). I for sure don't want to remove critical settings that are necessary for Pale Moon.... (btw, assuming these are "Pure URL" extension settings - shouldn't the expectation be that a "remove" of an add-on also remove settings in about:config that are specific to the add-on removed? Note: I did close/open browser after removing add-on) Of course - this may not be my problem anyway... (just trying to come up with something... something has changed in my case from when the site worked to now that it doesn't.)

No help removing the 4 previously referenced settings in about:config (so it wasn't the add-on).... in as much as this is for certain the only change I've personally made to Pale Moon (based on my recall and FEBE update data) in the past 3 months and this SiriusXM site has for certain worked flawlessly in Pale Moon for a number of weeks during the early part of this 3 month time-frame - I'm at a loss as to what could have impacted the site in the past 6-8 weeks  .... Hopefully I'll get somewhere with their Support on Monday (otherwise I'll presumably have to use another browser for SiriusXM ).

I recommend you stop using our spftware completely. All your problems for the past several years are due to your own choices on which terrible services to use on a system too slow to use them or some change you have done along the way.

Your musings are misinformed and irrelevant and no one cares to read them. Simply go away.

SiriusXM doesn't work for me with Native mode, but does work with Firefox compatmode.

@Pallid
So somewhere in the past 4 weeks you've changed this instead of leaving well enough alone -- because you need help if anything breaks, you should not be changing program defaults unless you (1) know exactly what you are doing and (2) remember what change to revert to troubleshoot your setup.
If our amount of control of preferences keeps having you trip (which you seem to with high regularity) then indeed this might not be the best browser for you.
