dw.com freeze / PM 29.2.0

Unread post by Kand_in_Sky » 2021-05-19, 03:05

any article on dw.com makes PM hang up and then nothing happens except for memory usage rises

frontpage works, clicking on any article make PM freeze
https://www.dw.com/de/themen/s-9077

redirecting from googlenews displays only a blank site
https://www.google.com/search?q=dw.com&tbm=nws

turning JS off works, which is the first help for me

Basilisk 2021.04.27 - works
Waterfox Classic 2021.04.02 - works
Opera 76 - works

at first me thought it could have something to do with my HOSTS but this affect all browsers, not only PM

Works for me, but I use ublock origin.

On the other side... opening any article from this page causes freeze and using up all available memory (at least for 32-bit version).

Some JS vulnerability, I guess.

WORKSFORME
Tested in a fresh profile (no adblocker or anything), Accepted the cookie dialog, opened random articles ("bild des tages" and "Für die Pressefreiheit - Fotos, die bewegen") and there's no freezing observed.

Some dw articles do cause freezing (script busy) here, and sometimes crashing - though not all articles.
(These, for example, caused freeze or crash for me:
Afrikanische Union suspendiert Mali; Kein Mädchen-Schulsport für Trans-Frauen; Irans größtes Marineschiff gesunken.)

It's caused by the promio-connect.com newsletter registration script (which isn't present for every article).

See: dw.com freezing PM
and
www.dw.com Crashes Palemoon 100% of the time

search lalala
Unfortunately, it's hard to search this since dw.com is ignored as being just two letters - the search just looks for for "com" .

I searched for "promio" to find the other threads.

That is true but our current Web Compat board should narrow it down. One is in this board the other isn't. Given that this dup still shouldn't have needed to exist.

In this case, not enough to be meaningful in my opinion: "dw.com"

Such a case doesn't come up very often. But here it does.

Quotes make ALL the difference! Plus when search pulls that bs it DOES TELL YOU so you can know to override with quotes.

Not for two-letter search terms.
Scratches head, wonders if we're using the same forum search engine...

The search linked above IS searched in quotes (as "dw.com") - but dw is ignored in that and all other quote-variations ("dw."com, "dw".com etc.)

I think the only way to effectively search for something like this is with a web search engine ( site:forum.palemoon.org dw.com ). It's not what folks usually think of doing, and I know I didn't think of it off the bat.

The dot is normally ignored too. Oh well. If search fails.. look through the first two pages of the target board. Does everything need to be spelled out for you people?

Hmm... At the moment, all the "dw.com" searches are finding nothing, not even "com".
Maybe forum search is being modified?

Search has been temporarily switched to MySQL FT. I'm rebuilding the php native index.
