Netflix
Hi, I am getting a notice when on a Netflix preview page as below:
Microsoft Silverlight is required to play this title.
Install the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in.
This is the link to the Netflix site https://www.netflix.com/extras/81336214?trkid=13710079&MSG_TITLE=81336214&lnktrk=EMP&g=47CBEBB11E8ACA4D71E025F39930D6AA64526D34&lkid=TITLE_2_HERO
I am using a PV and have Windows 10 Pro installed.
I have Silverlight installed and the site runs on all other browsers including Edge, Brave, Firefox and even Opera.
I prefer Palemoon but if it keeps asking to install Silverlight, I'll have to can it.
Is there a fix for this yet?
Cheers.

Re: Netflix
The installer provided through Netflix link does not work, download the right installer from Silverlight page.

Thanks for the info. I downloaded Silverlight_x64 from Microsoft, installed it and all is good. Cheers!Pentium4User wrote: ↑2021-04-04, 06:48Does it detect the Silverlight plugin?

You'd think that Netflix with it's billions in profit could afford to get the right version to download and install.
After saying that, Netflix will be switching from Microsoft Silverlight to HTML5 video later this year. Silverlight will be long gone just like Adobe Flash.

Same reason as Flash, support will end. That's the reason why using proprietary software is mostly a bad reason.

Re: Netflix
Choosing the correct CPU architecture for the plugin is up to the end user though. Netflix can't do much about what a user installs on their system.Isac Roberts wrote: ↑2021-04-12, 04:00You'd think that Netflix with it's billions in profit could afford to get the right version to download and install.
They are going to end Silverlight support and go for Google DRM only? I suspect they will be losing a good number of customers when they do.Isac Roberts wrote: ↑2021-04-12, 04:00Netflix will be switching from Microsoft Silverlight to HTML5 video later this year.

Re: Netflix
When Silverlight will be EOL in October I think MS will release an update that removes Silverlight.
EDIT: Quote fixed

Re: Netflix
I hope they don't. Just because they decide they are stopping support and updates for it doesn't mean people will instantly want to be bereft of it too (with probably no way to easily download and reinstall as well). If they do then that is a rather worrying trend.

Re: Netflix
silverlight has been mostly irrelevant for years, i would assume that the vast majority of people who are using netflix for whatever reason are using widevine drm instead. and judging not just by how adobe, ms, and google/mozilla/etc. forcibly removed flash from as many people's pcs as physically possible, but by the way microsoft has handled updates and "unsupported" products for nearly a decade now, i fully expect them to ship an update for windows that murders silverlight too, this is just how they operate. constantly struggling against big tech's demands is just a part of our lives now i guess

Re: Netflix
I also think that, but did they that already?
The places EOL notifications in their products, but I don't know any product that got killed by MS (only Flash, maybe because of a license). They even offer the released updates for their products
after EOL.

Re: Netflix
I also have Windows 10 64x pro. But I have never encountered such a problem. Yes, there was a case, it was necessary to reinstall Silverlight, but this plugin did not argue with Netflix.
