YouTube Studio broken again

trying to access youtube studio using pm 28.17.0 in safe mode and with no useragent override now gives me this obnoxious, condescending error screen:

miraculously, the rest of youtube seems to be working ok without a useragent override (including live chat), it's just studio that's borked

"user set" to a blank string is NOT the same as "no override"
Ultimately YT studio is Google's service and it will aim at Chrome. So, it can break any minute of any day they decide to use Chrome exclusive stuff.

christ, i deleted the override preference and restarted and now it works again for some reason? what? it would be great if someone told me how that makes a difference because i can't imagine why

if i wasn't aware of google's unquestioned dominance over the internet hellscape we have now, i wouldn't be clinging onto pale moon (and i wouldn't feel dirty about even considering using a chromium-based browser). i can't even log into a google account with seamonkey atm, because for some baffling reason, the login page thinks javascript is disabled (i checked, it isn't), so at this point i really have no idea what's going on. really not looking forward to polymer/webcomponents becoming commonplace

It's inevitable that Google services will become exclusive to Chrome derivatives and copycats. When Microsoft bundled IE with Windows and added non standard features to it, there was a huge brouhaha over antitrust, but people aren't even aware this is a problem with Google.

Speaking of playing Cassandra, I can't imagine the reaction when you release the next major version and legacy FF extensions instantly have a brainfart because they assumed that v 29 = Australis. Going by how well the updated incompatibility warning on the addons page was received

The warning about old and unmaintained legacy Firefox extensions is there for a reason.
If they have a brainfart because of some internal checking assuming we are Firefox, then that's just too bad and yet another reason why people need to be forking these things and actually maintaining them. We can't hold back development on account of that kind of stuff. Poorly received or not. There will be more changes that are going to be poorly received in the future, I'm sure, but it's simply not possible to stand still and adapt at the same time.

One thing that's lost on the 'keep PM permanently frozen as a vehicle for my old extensions else I will threaten to switch to Waterfox' crowd is that the last versions legacy extensions were released no later than 2017. Had Firefox continued supporting the technology they would be still be 4 years out of date if the author hadn't kept pace.

Well if they go to Waterfox "Classic" they will be back eventually because that is a dead end tech wise. Hell they even used some of our stuff at one point before Waterquantum happened.

Still Basilisk will do ok for a theoretical 98% compatible Firefox extension driver and is already Australis. Though compat there will also suffer some over time as well for the same reason desipte being largely pseudo-static.

The good news about Basilisk is it don't take much to do extensions for both despite Australis. But this community and userbase needs a swift kick in the ass to get started again.. If that doesn't work long term then I guess it doesn't work and we have all collectively failed each other and that would be a great shame.

Still same result in the end if we don't give them a reason to get motivated.
