Where did you set the minimum font size? in userContent.css?

The only ad blocker is the one that's built-in.
There isn't any such thing built-in.
What's this? 'Tools' > 'Preferences' > 'Content' > 'Block pop-up windows'

Setting 'Tools' > 'Preferences' > 'Content' > 'Fonts & Colors' > '[ Advanced... ]' > 'Minimum font size:' to 'None' worked for me, too.

That setting will cause problems with other pages, though.

Exactly what it says
What does it have to do with blocking ads, or did you think that 'ad' and 'pop up window' are synonyms?

If 'None' value is default, why would it cause problems?

Aha, okay, well maybe someone should signal the webmaster of that site that there's a problem with their layout if a minimum font size is enforced by the browser (an accessibility consideration).

Also, "none" should never cause issues.

I don't know, but it did with some web sites with the then-current PM. I set 'Minimum font size' to a number in order to fix the rendering, and left it at that thinking that it otherwise doesn't matter (which it, apparently, does matter).

The better question is this: Why does 'Minimum font size' set to something other than 'None' screw up the font size rendering of https://www.smpte.org/ ?

Well, I guess I did! I see my error now. Thanks.

You know, I actually have nothing against ads. What I endeavor to avoid is so-called telemetry & tracking. Either (or both) can alter what is returned in searches (but presumably not with Duck Duck Go). If I search for something, I don't want to be targeted by something that some robot thinks I want (which it then tries to sell me). That's why I use a custom HOSTS file: It blocks targets like google... (whatever -- I can't remember all the google stuff at this moment) and aws.

Edit: I remember now that one of the google targets blocked is googleanalytics.com.

You're on the public internet. You can choose to be tracked by being in public.. OR trying to evade and it breaking things. Of course, you could just leave the internet as that would solve all the issues you are having.

Thank you, Mr. Tobin [1]. I can always count on you for a totally impractical solution.

Tobin is right. You either accept the net as it is - warts and all, or learn everything you can about using adblock filters on your preferred adblocker - there's no point going for half measures.

I'd still root for the latter because ad networks have more often than not been caught serving malware, even on supposedly reputable sites.

Bottomline is that you have to take control of your internet experience to both stay safe and be free of irritating resource hogging ads.

You also have to accept as part of the responsibility that your actions will result in busted sites.

Goes without saying for those who think an adblocker is a magic button that does its thing instead of learning how filtering rules work and fixing the ones that break sites.
