Pale Moon 28.14.2
Page: https://www.smpte.org/

Firefox renders this page, though it's obviously formatted for smart phones, not computer browsers.

Pale Moon makes soup. The font is so large only a couple of lines are visible with 1 or 2 chars. Applying minimal font size is still too large, but some text is then too small to read.

I've tried using both the web page's font size and my font size in 'Preferences'. I once saw a similar problem a long time ago, in a version far, far away. :-)

My laptop display is 3840x2160.

After clicking on your link the page renders properly for me. My monitor is 27" with 1920x1080.

At this time, I'm using 64 bit linux Pale Moon 28.14.2 running in 64 bit linux Mint 20 (Ulyana) Xfce. I have the uBlock Origin extension enabled for the site.

I'm also using Firefox Compatibility mode.
Linux Mint 22.1 (Xia) Xfce w/Pale Moon, Waterfox, Firefox
MX Linux 23.6 (Libretto) Xfce w/Pale Moon, Waterfox, Firefox
Linux Debian 12.11 (Bookworm) Xfce w/Pale Moon, Waterfox, Firefox

Mint 18.3, Cinnamon

Ah, perhaps my HOSTS file is blocking some googleanalytics or aws 'helpers'. Unrelated: I'll try Safe Mode. I'll be back...
I'm also using Firefox Compatibility mode.
Same.

With a vanilla 'hosts' file and in Safe Mode, the rendering is still screwed.

I'm running in a VM, so my display is not 3840x2160, it's 3840x1986.

I'm baffled.

If you're using a global UA override or have changed Tools->Preferences->Advanced->General->Compatibility away from Firefox compatibility, change it back.
Also unblock the following domains as highlighted in green if you're using eMatrix or any other adblocker -

The only ad blocker is the one that's built-in. I turned it off. It did not help.

Safe Mode doesn't help. I do run FF compatibility. I've never seen what you pictured.

Do you think this could have anything to do with this? I'm running PM as a portable app.

PM is running out of a virtual USB drive:

For me the page also displays ugly on my current profile even with all addons disabled but looks OK on the clean test profile.

I just removed the @viewport directive from userContent.css and relaunched PM.

No joy.

Looks fine here, and it doesn't seem to be a mobile site, either?

Also abusing hosts, yuyu?

No. I don't use HOSTS for blocking. And as I said, it looks fine on the clean profile.

OK, so, with hosts, it displays bad on current and clean profiles
Without hosts, is displays bad only on a loaded profile.

Likely cause: blocking of some sort that is common between the hosts file in use and whatever blocker is present in yuyu's current profile.

Check your various blocklist subscriptions and filters?

By the way, depending on how hosts is set up, you'll have to at least restart your system after disabling filtering in it and likely also clear your browser cache.

Thanks, Moonchild. It seems that on my current profile network/proxy settings are somehow reconfigured. I will look into this later.

This displayed badly for me in usual profile & in safe mode, BUT correctly in fresh profile. I tracked the problem down to having a minimum font size set: changing that from '12' to 'None' fixed the display of this page.

Indeed setting minimum font to "none" straightens out that broken site.. here too
