YouTube has stopped loading.
YouTube has stooped loading for me and as a result is no longer usable in PM as of last night, I checked again today and got the same problem. I'm using the unofficial version of Pale Moon 28.13.0 on a Mid 2009 MacBook Pro that's running 0S X 10.9.5. I've included a screen capture of what I get when I go to YouTube. I'd love it if a solution can be fond that can make YouTube usable again on PM. If this isn't a problem for Windows and Linux users then I'll assume it's a Mac specific problem and repost this in the Mac section of this forum for Mac specific help. Thanks in advance.

Re: YouTube has stopped loading.
Where did you get your "unofficial" version for 28.13.0 from?
Since I use linux Pale Moon and windows Pale Moon, I get my newest version of Pale Moon at these links below for Linux and Windows.
http://linux.palemoon.org/download/mainline/
http://www.palemoon.org/download.shtml
I also use and visit YouTube multiple times every day and today was no exception.
I have no problems with YouTube whether I'm using 64 bit linux Pale Moon 28.13.0 running in 64 bit linux Mint 20 (Ulyana) Xfce or 64 bit windows Pale Moon 28.13.0 running in 64 bit Windows 7 (Home Premium & Ultimate since I have four Windows 7 hard drives). My Windows 7 hard drives are my backup operating system.

Re: YouTube has stopped loading.
Not experienceing that here (for the most part) - PM 28.13, Win 7 x86.
While testing, there was one instance of YT's front page freezing. Other YT pages, searching, playing videos, all loaded/worked fine until the front page got opened. (Normally I always open YouTube on something other than its main page).
However trying again a few minutes later, the main page loaded just fine.

Then I think, in my opinion, the OP should have posted that message in the "Pale Moon for Mac OS X" forum since the OP is using a MacBook Pro. If he had, I wouldn't have posted my message in this forum since I deal 99% of the time with linux Pale Moon as my preferred browser of choice.

That did used to be how things were done, but it has changed.
Now Mac and Linux users are being asked to post in General support, or Web Compatibility Support as appropriate, unless their issue is clearly Mac- or Linux-specific. For instance, take a look at the red "Forum rules" recently added to the top of the Linux board.

Re: YouTube has stopped loading.
As it seems to be a Mac only problem I'll repost this in the mac section of this forum. And I'm glad that YouTube is currently working for both Windows and Linux PM users.

Re: YouTube has stopped loading.
Apparently this was caused by a custom site-specific override for youtube set by the user, that no longer works (potentially to try and force Material, and now defaulting to polymer v2 as a result, which doesn't work without Google WebComponents)

Re: YouTube has stopped loading.
I noticed google is now issuing 2-nags on their pages.One nag is to try and force a sign in and another nag screen is for cookie acceptance and these nags appear on youtube and google search.
I have to use startpage or another search just to not see these annoying nag pop ups.

YouTube isn't loading at all for me, even in Safe Mode, on Windows.
PM Version 28.13.0 (64-bit)
Edit: Interestingly, if I am not logged in (private window or clear cookies), it works, but as soon as I log in again it stops working again.

Re: YouTube has stopped loading.
not working here, either.
pm 28.13.0
if i go to a video page directly, it'll play, but nothing else loads and i can't use theater mode.
incidentally, youtube stopped remembering theater mode a few days ago. it used to stay in theater mode all the time, but now it doesn't.
update: as of 8:01 pm eastern us time they appear to have fixed whatever it is they broke

Re: YouTube has stopped loading.
I can confirm this exact behavior. Deleting all Youtube cookies causes the page to load fully. Once logged in, everything disappears except the video itself.

Re: YouTube has stopped loading.
Update:
This appears to fix the problem for me:
1. Install Greasemonkey (from https://addons.palemoon.org/extensions/ ... utilities/ )
2. Go to youtube then create a new user script from the greasemonkey dropdown, so that https://www.youtube.com/ is in the Includes box
3. Set this as the userscript
4. Save the userscript and refresh
From a quick test - just loading the homepage, selecting a recommendation type and watching a video - seems to work as normal. Not sure if there'll be something that breaks further down the line though.
Why this works: It looks like Youtube only wants to use this for some optional feature that does who-knows-what and isn't actually needed, so making it do nothing skips the error and lets the rest of the site load.
See https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/doc ... ddListener
As usual, big tech not following industry standard advice of degrading gracefully, and MDN using wrong terminology, Pale Moon is not an old browser.

And indeed in Pale Moon, MediaQueryList instanceof EventTarget is false.This is basically an alias for EventTarget.addEventListener(), for backwards compatibility purposes. Older browsers should use addListener instead of addEventListener since MediaQueryList only inherits from EventTarget in newer browsers.

Re: YouTube has stopped loading.
So why was this renamed or aliased, then? addListener is long-standing functionality which we (and everybody else!) have had forever.
Or rather: give me something actionable that isn't "add a blank override"; help me understand what YT is apparently relying on?

Re: YouTube has stopped loading.
By the way, wouldn't the following be a more accurate (and functional) script?
Code: Select all
// ==UserScript==
// @name test
// @namespace putsomerandomstringhere
// @include https://www.youtube.com/
// @version 1
// @grant none
// @run-at document-start
// ==/UserScript==
window.MediaQueryList.prototype.addEventListener = function(event, cb) {
this.addListener(cb);
};
window.MediaQueryList.prototype.removeEventListener = function(event, cb) {
this.removeListener(cb);
};

Re: YouTube has stopped loading.
So IIUC "modern" browsers simply inherit from EventTarget and don't do anything else. Why have a MediaQueryList type to begin with in that case instead of just using the generic EventTarget directly? We have a distinct class for it and I'd like to keep it that way.
