nexusmods.com - broken styles, images and favicon no longer loading
The gist of it:
* Due recent revamp, nexusmods.com has changed the way it serves images, so instead of proper jpeg, png and even ico files it outputs custom webp and avif, which fail to load / parse in Palemoon most of the time.
* Due the same revamp, the styles are now seemingly using Chrome-specific constructions which makes Palemoon fail to display mod preview images on authors profile pages even if they were successfully loaded, essentially making the browser useless for the purposes of interaction with this site.
I use Palemoon 33.2.0 and also tested everything with Firefox 115 and Chromium 100 - both appear to work just fine.

Yup, they are serving avif images despite it not being in out content negotiation header (Accept: request header), even though the file name of the images has a .png extension. I guess someone was overzealous trying to "optimize" the images.
We don't support the AVIF image file type.

Hopefully someone realized they screwed up and are fixing this

I shot them a message after reading this thread; maybe they're trying to fix it? not sure.

Re: nexusmods.com - broken styles, images and favicon no longer loading
So far doesn't look good. I received a response stating they weren't familiar with the context of the format they started to use but that it "looks to be a well-supported and growing format with good compression and quality" and if them opening an issue for AVIF on our repo would be worth it.
In response I gave some objective context to clarify, what position AVIF takes compared to the established formats, how it compares to other formats, how it doesn't provide significant improvements or interesting features to the existing ecosystem of images and indicating we went for JPEG-XL instead (that combines the best parts of AVIF and other formats) for the typical uses where one would consider AVIF (small web graphics isn't one of them, actually, where webp significantly outperforms it). I indicated that a request for AVIF would not be prioritized in that context because we have limited resources.
Result:but it seems like they are just giving us (and in turn all nexusmods users) the middle finger with that, not wanting to even consider using webp or other established formats when we indicate the formats supported in our "Accept:" headers.
Well, at least it was clarified a little more:

I'm not sure how to read this,Thanks for the response.
All the best with Pale Moon.

I can only hope they do something with it.For clarity, I've passed on your feedback about AVIF as a format to other relevant parties at Nexus Mods.
Thanks for sending it over.

Re: nexusmods.com - broken styles, images and favicon no longer loading
Not sure this is related to the OP, or not, but it's occurring on Nexus Mods & this is recent enough that it could be linked.
So I'm posting it here.
This morning I found myself unable to browse past the first page of the mods listiing.
The page link is not clickable (though hand icon appears) & though Open in new/this tab appear on right click, they do nothing either.
Checking on LibraWolf (My backup Browser) it's working fine there, but the links are NOT actually page links now.
The first page of any game, for example;
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods
Opens on page 1 as normal, but clicking on ANY other page number changes the page to THAT page, but the link is now just a click history.
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecial ... mods/?BH=0
Whatever page number is clicked next, the browser changes to that page & increments the BHO number by 1, so the web address DOES NOT designate the actual page used, which is new.
My memory tells me BHO = Browser Helper Objects, but those were old IE4 plugins, so no Idea what this uses (a database maybe?).
However it's doing it, the link appears to be a pointer to change what "page" (section) of the full webpage is being displayed without actually changing the webpage.
The BHO number simply reflects your current click history, not what you clicked.
I don't know if this is specific to Nexus Mods, it is a very large hosting site with a huge database of mods to organise, but I've not seen this behaviour before.
Mod Pages still work though I did see a popup sizing issue with the downloads tab, which makes the requirements listing get overwritten by the "page" footer (I assume). There may also be other changes I haven't spotted yet, nothing changed on my PC, though after finding this issue I just updated Pale Moon from v33.1.1 to v33.4.1, but it's not changed this.

Re: nexusmods.com - broken styles, images and favicon no longer loading
You didn't mention it, but I'll comment on the favicon. The one I see is favicon.ico (webp), which looks like a "broken" image on their end; favicon-32x32.png (webp) looks like the right image, but I'm not sure if PM (actually, Basilisk) is not recognising the size attribute to select it (or any of the others available) or is just using favicon.ico, anyway.
Can't comment on what happened before, but now it just loads the next "page" dynamically, so there is no specific page URL.Uhuru NUru wrote: ↑2024-11-09, 14:05Opens on page 1 as normal, but clicking on ANY other page number changes the page to THAT page, but the link is now just a click history.

There's no "O", it's just "BH", simply BrowserHistory. My memory tells me BHO = Browser Helper Objects, but those were old IE4 plugins, so no Idea what this uses (a database maybe?).
Seems you have to sign in to see that (the bits I did see seemed okay).Mod Pages still work though I did see a popup sizing issue with the downloads tab, which makes the requirements listing get overwritten by the "page" footer (I assume).

Re: nexusmods.com - broken styles, images and favicon no longer loading
In a follow up this seems to be impacted by the toggle web components extension & further changes to the the site.
Some pages now need them toggled off & some need them on, so my current workaround is turning them off when on the menu pages & on for the rest of the site.
A failure to load the page is seen & the toggle reloads the page & fixes it if you forget to set it first.

Re: nexusmods.com - broken styles, images and favicon no longer loading
I haven't been to Nexus for about 2-3 months, and today noticed the site is very broken in PM. The navigation doesn't work for shit, jumping between pages in list of mods mostly doesn't work... Stupid Firefox grew from a very secondary browser for FB, Yt and IG into something completely full of tabs because of all these annoying incompatibilities. And it's probably going to get even worse with time
