Ebay as well as Amazon and the like use all kind of telemetry trying to 'protect' them from possible maybe-automatic robots. Their error messages are causing more confusion than they solve. This “could not connect to server” is more likely a “we think you are an automated bot“ message.

My (privacy) settings don't fit their expectations for years now: Each time I log in, they recognise my one and only PC as “a new computer“ which allegedly has to be “verified“. After the support put some switches, it was working for some time. Until they scattered their next round of snake oil onto their site.

And because they are (very likely) unable to make it work on every human-operated web browser, their official credo is “use Chrome”.

I'd like to fiddle around with this issue, but first I have to solve the hen-and-egg problem that I can't log in and their support keeps sending me messages to my account…

Btw, one of their magic to think you are a bot is when the User Agent does not fit their expectations (whatever these are).

I can't even get their list of “supported browser”, because their stoopid systen does a 307 Temporary Redirect to:

I've had no problem bidding on ebay (https://www.ebay.com/) - did some successful bidding in just the past couple of weeks. So it would appear the issues are specific to certain ebay (locations) sites -- previously referenced (locations in this topic) have been ".de", ".uk".... (as I recall) that reportedly have problems with "bidding".

This would presumably suggest that ebay isn't keeping there various login locations very "standardized" .... (shall we say?).

FWIW, last week the bid popup was broken even in Chrome sporadically, worked again yesterday. They're definitely messing around with the popup, and have been moving the bid amount entry field from the page to the popup recently (seems to depend on account and cookies where it shows up, but by now it's in the popup almost everywhere). Their systems don't seem to be very stable generally, I sometimes have to reload multiple times to see my list of bids, and article and seller pages also sometimes don't load on the first try or even give an error.

Waterfox G4.1.2.1 (64-bit) working well
Can you check an old version of waterfox? Maybe you can find the reason for the error.

After installing the Pale Moon 32.5.0 update, I have found that both the bid and best offer buttons are now working! I am not sure what part of the update fixed them but thanks!

Also working on Ebay.co.uk now. Whether that's due to tweaks to Palemoon or my persistant complaints to Ebay via the "Tell Us What You Think" page I don't know, but it's good news :D .
