Re: Dactyloidae Browser (Basilisk fork)
I got to watch a friend of mine trying this browser on Windows 11 yesterday. It was pretty cool, he was able to add uBlock 1.70 for modern Firefox and it was definitely blocking ads on sites, although he couldn't interact with uBlock's settings.
This is a very intriguing browser to watch in action. Today I'll tell him to remove uBlock 1.70 and try to add the uBlock for Pale Moon and see if that also works.
I noticed that the browser was using more CPU than normal on the sites he visited, but since this is a work in progress that's no big surprise. The big surprise is that it actually works at all! We were watching a video with it, with clear sound, I was a bit amazed at this browser's capabilities.
UPDATE - it works! You can remove the modern Firefox uBlock add-on, at which point you see ads. And then add the Pale Moon version of uBlock, and it blocks ads. So you can really use both sets of add-ons. This has got a lot of potential.

Finally starting work on a Linux port. That and 32 bit Windows will be available in prerelease 1 (nothing much changed except for platform choices)

Surprised latest uBO works. Tried getting it working on my testing and it just didn't work, maybe I improved it, I don't know.andyprough wrote: ↑2026-04-16, 15:16I got to watch a friend of mine trying this browser on Windows 11 yesterday. WIll be working on backporting patches from Waterfox Classic as promised too, aswell as working on the CPU usage problem in 13.2.

Yes, the latest Firefox uBlock definitely seemed to work, as we saw ads disappear when installed and reappear when removed. As I said, we couldn't interact with uBlock's settings, not even in the Add-on page, but it appeared to be doing its basic job. The Pale Moon version of uBlock appeared to be working well in all respects.ownedbywuigi wrote: ↑2026-04-16, 17:43Surprised latest uBO works. A port that would work on GNU/Linux distros would be pretty cool. Looking forward to it.ownedbywuigi wrote: ↑2026-04-16, 17:41Finally starting work on a Linux port. That and 32 bit Windows will be available in prerelease 1 (nothing much changed except for platform choices)

That's to be expected, my WebExtensions thing hasn't been modified much (except for spoofing to Firefox 128 for WebExtensions, etc)andyprough wrote: ↑2026-04-16, 20:20Yes, the latest Firefox uBlock definitely seemed to work, as we saw ads disappear when installed and reappear when removed. Writing this from the (soon to be) Linux build of Dactyloidae 13.2. Was a pain to compile thanks to zlib but it's finally real.

Yeah the theme is still a tad broken, will fix in prerelease 2 + some other stuff, this is still a proof of concept buildandyprough wrote: ↑2026-04-17, 02:03It works!ownedbywuigi wrote: ↑2026-04-17, 01:18Dactyloidae version 13.2 prerelease 1 is out now! (for Linux and 32 bit WIndows only)

Not sure what you mean by this. There is a version of zlib in our tree that works fine?ownedbywuigi wrote: ↑2026-04-17, 00:05Writing this from the (soon to be) Linux build of Dactyloidae 13.2. Was a pain to compile thanks to zlib but it's finally real.
I'm curious to hear about your Basilisk build setup. Are you using the Oracle Linux 8 Docker Container setup that I use for Basilisk releases or something else?

Re: Dactyloidae Browser (Basilisk fork)
I’m using a VM of Oracle Linux 8, manually installed everything considering my OS X version is too old for Docker.Basilisk-Dev wrote: ↑2026-04-17, 15:43Not sure what you mean by this. The zlib in my tree for some reason doesn’t like to compile on anything but Windows without modifications to how it handles SIMD.

Re: Dactyloidae Browser (Basilisk fork)
If you are looking to improve zlib performance, rather than adding SIMD stuff to zlib it might be beneficial for you to investigate switching to zlib-ng in zlib-compat mode. I've been meaning to play around with this but haven't had time. Switching to zlib-ng will almost certainly be faster than any SIMD improvements you add yourself.ownedbywuigi wrote: ↑2026-04-17, 16:06The zlib in my tree for some reason doesn’t like to compile on anything but Windows without modifications to how it handles SIMD.

Re: Dactyloidae Browser (Basilisk fork)
Never heard of zlib-ng until now. Will take a look, it seems like they only support Mac/Windows/Linux but I’m sure it won’t be hard to port to the BSDsBasilisk-Dev wrote: ↑2026-04-17, 16:29

Re: Dactyloidae Browser (Basilisk fork)
Small grudges I have had on browsers in Linux that are now fixed in Dactyloidae:
Dactyloidae is now (I think) the ONLY XDG compliant browser! (basically the browser's configuration will be in /home/.config/ instead of it's own folder in /home/)

No, looks like at least Brave puts its config stuff under ~/.config/BraveSoftware/ownedbywuigi wrote: ↑2026-04-17, 23:00Small grudges I have had on browsers in Linux that are now fixed in Dactyloidae:
