I have not been too happy with the online calendars such as the calendars included with Hotmail and Gmail. I won't delve into those issues so I will get to the point.
I use three linux distros (Linux Mint, MX Linux, Linux Debian) and all of them use the Xfce desktop environment. I was using the Gnome Calendar (gnome-calendar) found in the Synaptic Package Manager in all three distros.
This calendar worked in both Mint and Debian, but it had a bug in MX Linux so it would not work. So I went hunting for another off line calendar which would work in all three distros and I found one without any errors. It is named "KOrganizer" and even though I use the Xfce desktop environment, this calendar is from the KDE desktop environment.
To get it in both Mint and Debian, click on the Synaptic Package Manager in both distros. Then type in your password at the prompt. Once inside the SPM, left click on the Search button. In the Find window which opens up, using lower case letters, type in (without the quote marks) "korganizer".
The SPM will list "korganizer" and it will show as not being installed. Then right click on the unchecked little box to the left of "korganizer" and a context window will pop up. Then left click on "Mark for installation". Then left click on "Apply" and follow the prompts and it will be installed. Then exit the SPM.
Once installed, it will be listed in the Menu under "Office". I cannot speak for the Mate or the Cinnamon desktop environments so these instructions might not work for them.
But these instructions will be different to install KOrganizer in MX Linux. To make things short, you can see this off line calendar in the MX Linux video below. Jump ahead in the video to the 8:05 time mark. With this time mark, you will be able to see how it looks, how to modify it to your liking and how to get it to use in MX Linux.
Now the author of this video gets a little "wordy" in how he uses this calendar and so stay with him. He will eventually get to how he finds and installs this calendar in MX Linux.
