Skiff the private encrypted email start-up is closing

I was a happy Skiff Pages user with a paid account, Skiff is/was mainly an email service, and while I didn't really need another email provider, I thought their Pages app looked interesting and so got a basic account for storing notes. It didn't cost that much, and using it was a bit of an experiment.

Anyway, I got an email saying the service is closing in 6 months time and the Skiff discord has simply disappeared without notice. This blog explains the details of what has happened so far. Annoyed.

Any email provider that deviates from standard email protocols, i.e. cannot be used outside of a specially crafted website, isn't worth using. No idea if this applies to Skiff.

You would think Notion would offer Skiff users a chance to migrate their old e-mail addresses to their own service. That would have made this story positive PR for them.

Unless they were only acquiring Skiff for the notes aspect, which seems a bit odd given that Notion already has a perfectly good set of to-do lists and other such stuff.

To me this seems like a takeover to remove competition, not because the merger would advance their existing product.
