Since the ability of my old RadioShack Dazzle SD card reader has proven to be insufficient—given that it cannot read SDHC and SD-Card-adaptor-for-MicroSD-card cards, both things that I very much need—I was wondering if anyone might have any suggestions for a new SD card reader.
I've looked online myself, but so many of the ones that I see have unnecessary bells and whistles that I don't really want if at all possible. I wish that it was easier to find a simple SD card reader that is capable of reading SD, SDHC, and SD-Card-adaptors-for-MIcroSD-cards.
If anyone has a good external SD card reader that they use themselves, or if they are simply aware of a good one, I would be grateful if they wouldn't mind sharing what it is.

Re: Suggestions for a new SD card reader?
I've had the same problem a couple years ago so i just shopped around and bought a no-name all-in-one card reader (from ebay or amazon, I think) that just does the job. Not fast or anything but then again SD cards tend to be slow anyway ;P
It literally has no brand, but i'll share a photo. It Just Works™

Re: Suggestions for a new SD card reader?
Maybe something like this?
https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-UHS-I-Ca ... ast_sto_dp
It's a SanDisk reader. Generally, I stick to SanDisk or Kingston for both SD cards and readers. Not any particular reason other than that I've had reasonably good luck with those brands, but in reality it likely doesn't matter...
From what I've seen of people using them, that reader is very compact and does everything you would want. I don't have it myself, but a friend does and is happy with it.
If you really want to be safe, you could try to get a multi-reader that has a dedicated slot for MicroSD cards (I got a USB 2.0 one a long time ago that works fine to this day), but I didn't see any of those at a good price, and they were all USB-C only. I really don't like using USB-C on desktop... you usually don't have many of those ports available compared to USB-A, the cables/hubs are more expensive, etc.

Re: Suggestions for a new SD card reader?
4 years ago I was in the same boat and happy to pick up this Kingston unit:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VAGX6MW

I picked up the one above when I also needed CF card reading, and wanted USB 3.0.
But I still do use my old Roswill (NewEgg house brand) SD-only readers that are USB 2.0 and I believe would technically work for you and be much less bells and whistles. They look like slightly engorged USB flash drives that you slide the card into the back of, so maybe you can find something like that?

I guess my tip is to find one sold by a brand you currently trust.

Re: Suggestions for a new SD card reader?
Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions.
For the time being, I have decided to go with the tiny, compact option that athenian200 recommended. You see, I've grown very accustomed now to having a built-in reader. I was willing to let the convenience of an unobtrusive SD card reader go, so long as my old RadioShack Dazzle did the job (the Dazzle is somewhat bulky, and takes up a bit of space).
Since it didn't do the job, and I am purchasing a whole new reader, I am inclined to go for something that is close to the experience of a built-in reader.
