Re: Windows 11 still sucks.
Once upon a time, Microsoft released Internet Explorer for Mac. Is Edge for Linux that different? A moot, Linux-based Windows would presumably be an exercise in embracing, extending and extinguishing, as is tradition. I understand that Microsoft’s hope for Xenix in the long term had been to achieve just this, wherein the lay user could not tell the difference between DOS and Xenix in single-user mode.

Re: Windows 11 still sucks.
I have rarely ever had such problems on linux even before I got good linux hardware.
The only comp that ever had problems was my hp one. However it was the wifi card in question and spoiler, it didnt work in windows too well either after a small amount of use.
It really depends which hardware you get. I have heard lenovo thinkpads are the best mainstream option.
However, it is better still to get libreboot/coreboot supported hardware.
Each coreboot/libreboot hardware I have has worked good with wifi as long as it didn't break due to my recklessness in past.
I used to have some let's say tendencies to get easily annoyed... more so then now, alot more

Re: Windows 11 still sucks.
I had to go down to the computer repair shop to a customer who found out I use linux Waterfox as a backup browser to linux Pale Moon and my Waterfox is not installed in either of MX Linux or Debian with both distros using the Xfce desktop environment.
He was using MX Linux with Xfce also. Short story, I showed the customer how to use linux Waterfox without it being installed and creating the Waterfox launcher icon with the Waterfox logo.
But the real story of this post, there were quite a few customers in the shop watching a YouTube video. The video was about Microsoft's problems with the retail Windows 11.
So I thought I would post the video below. It is an interesting 15 minute long video. I just wish the guy on the video would talk a little slower since you really have to pay attention to keep engaged with this video. The title of the video is: "Windows is Dying" (Microsoft Knows It).

I just find the idea of Linux based Windows silly, considering what it would take to accomplish alone.
Linux on desktop just doesn't click with me for number of reasons, so I'm sticking with Win10 until wheels fall off.
No plan for after the wheels fall off though. It may not even matter if we're all dead from WWIII by then...

Re: Windows 11 still sucks.
In case I haven't mentioned yet, I noticed while trialing Win11 23H2, if I set it to go to sleep in 30 min while setting screen to never turn off, then it doesn't go to sleep. 🙃 Only if monitor was set to turn off some time before sleep, then it goes to sleep.
I wonder if Audigy drivers behave better on 10. The thing with EAX controls in control panel app going kaput if application using Creative OpenAL driver is abruptly terminated. At least that's what happened when trialing on Win11. Though attempting to stop the driver crashed both Windows 11 and XP.

Off-topic:
Funny thing about Audigy Rx on Linux, I had to select DIGITAL output to get sound out off ANALOG port. 🙃
Sound BlasterX AE-5 Plus on the other hand, had to mess with HDAJackRetask to disable jack detection on the headphone port since it always considered nothing plugged in it. And for some reason, there's something strange about how this card sounds on Linux.
Edit: Strange sound is apparently due to some extra processing enabled by default...

Re: Windows 11 still sucks.
Looks like the forced requirement to have a Microsoft account for Windows 11 is still facing lots of continuing backlash in the Retail market. And Microsoft is thinking about dropping it. But I would not count on this being removed.

Re: Windows 11 still sucks.
I should install some other build at some point, but, it's stressful, all little things to set back...
20H2 is not ideal, have some oddities, nothing deal breaking, but my mind is calmer if these don't occur. Now I just got a new one, I setup Registry Auditing entry to hopefully catch what creates the mysterious empty HKCU\ServerKey registry key. After that, I tried saving the page from ChatGPT with Thorium, when the Explorer's dialog was opened, all default apps were reset...I know associations reset if some app tries to change them the old way, but I didn't get this problem with EVERYTHING resetting ever since the OS was installed, and the installation is 5 years old at this point.

Re: Windows 11 still sucks.
My dentist visit today marks the first time I recall ever seeing Windows 11 in the wild, after years of hearing about friends who use it by force. Only a floral desktop was being displayed. Like air pollution, Windows 11 is something which simply exists in the background and menaces society. It is possible to settle somewhere with clearer air, but not many do, and if too many do, the air is prone to be fouled unless societal habits change. Microsoft’s continued existence, much like Google’s, Apple’s and Facebook’s, could be described as a social problem, from which I am now happy totally (since discarding Discord) to isolate myself. Has anyone but the FSF tried to organise a Microsoft boycott?

I get the feeling 75% of users still use Microsoft due to fear of the unknown and needing compatibility with programs that are windows only.
The other 25% probably are just unwilling to change for other reasons including maybe laziness? I definitely have my lazy streak in places, but yeah as much as I do, I still recognize ditching windows as a wise ideal.
Also I am glad I ditched systemd linux distros as well, especially with that age verification crap...

Re: Windows 11 still sucks.
We have a vague hint of how many people like Windows: US surveys suggest maybe two thirds of the general public like Windows, which would agree with the proportion of US Americans who actually use it. Similar figures hold for Apple. The figures do not permit us to conclude anything firm, but for everyone who tolerates Windows 11 and feels shackled to it by that one piece of software, as I had been to Windows 7 in 2020 and my artist friend is today thanks to Clip Studio Paint, there are others who see all this as petty fanboy vendettas.

@ UCyborg
That was an interesting video you posted. I do not know if the video I am going to post has been seen on this topic thread since the topic has now reached, at the time of this posting, 28 pages.
But if the leaked requirements for Windows 12 comes to pass, there will be a large move away from Windows 12 in the retail market. I am not sure if Microsoft will stay the course if the requirements for Windows 12 are really true. Just have to wait and see.

Why these videos keep referencing Bill Gates rather than Satya Nadella?

Maybe Gates is a paid consultant to Microsoft. One thing is certain. Both Gates and Nadella have big egos. This might mean Nadella doesn't like or want to take advice from the former CEO (Gates). Just a guess on my part.
