NEED FOR SPEED MOST WANTED (2005) Remake in 2024? (Rumor)
Hello,
Today I read (rumour) that next year there will be a Need For Speed Most Wanted Remake (2005).
What do you think about it?
I think that if they do it right and with an interesting plot (I'm not sure if it will be the same as in the original) it could be fun. Although the original cast may be missing.

The remake disease has hit the gaming world as well
You can bet it will require an online connection to play and have all the lootboxes and other pay to win crap that we have now. Or a marginally updated graphics cash grab.

I have the original version and it works and looks great on Window 10.

No, I don't use Windows anymore but played it last a couple of years ago.

What made you abandon Windows?
I used to consider Linux Mint.

User experience has anyway gone downhill starting with 8, and I was forced to switch to an underpowered laptop that could barely load 10 with 4 GB RAM. Switched to Mint XFCE, then installed an additional 8 GB RAM and now it works great. The only thing I miss from Windows is gaming but that's not anyway possible on this laptop.

You're right. Games, habit and applications keep me on Windows.
As far as I know, Wine allows you to play games from Windows + Steam seems to have improved something there. I don't know about GOG.
Maybe you'll find something for yourself.

They do sell some native Linux games, but they don't really provide any support for running Windows games on Linux, and their official launcher "GOG Galaxy" is also not available on Linux (and also does not run in Wine, though it's been a while since I tried).
But you can download separate installers for every game and install them in Wine yourself, of course. And there is also the unofficial and open-source "Heroic Games Launcher", which supports both GOG and Epic Games, and will automatically use Wine or Proton for any Windows games.

Thanks for the answer. How about gaming performance?Toa-Nuva wrote: ↑2023-07-13, 16:29But you can download separate installers for every game and install them in Wine yourself, of course. Re: NEED FOR SPEED MOST WANTED (2005) Remake in 2024? (Rumor)
I haven't really used real Windows for gaming recently (I only use it in VMs or at work), so I can't really compare how the same games perform in Wine/Proton vs real Windows. I would definitely expect at least some performance loss, due to the additional compatibility layer and possibly less optimized drivers on Linux. But honestly, I'd be more worried about compatibility and stability than about performance.
I am currently playing The Witcher 3 (from GOG) and GTA 5 (from Epic Games), installed via the Heroic Games Launcher and using Proton GE on my Steam Deck (which runs Arch Linux based SteamOS). I don't really have any issues with performance on these games (though admittedly those are 8+ years old games by now), but GTA 5 likes to crash quite regularly. With modern games, you're also at the mercy of the publisher, apparently some weeks ago there was a patch that broke GTA 5 completely in Proton, though I guess that was resolved rather quickly in that case. You can check websites like https://appdb.winehq.org or https://www.protondb.com for compatibility of games that you are interested in, but you never know how a future patch might affect compatibility.

It is clear.
This is to be expected.
