Not sure why this is news... or why it took Yandex 11 years to figure this out. We've had hardware drivers before that would preconfigure for firefox.exe and needed specific entries in configuration files to also like palemoon.exe -- the touchpad drivers in particular that were mentioned there. We figured that out very early.

You misunderstand. it's other people who pull off garbage by hardcoding "chrome.exe" in their software and giving it special treatment.
