Or use a damn adblocker, more so when it's your own computer and not a workplace one with restricted local privileges. How anyone can stand to use the internet totally unfiltered since around 1998 is beyond me.

Or just don't click the search results that are listed as "ads". I tend to avoid them if i see them because I know they are, by definition, not real organic search results. And yes, search engines are required to label ad results as ads. Google does too.

I agree. Adblockers are the correct way to go, I install them on every family member's computer if they ask me to help them with their computer.

Adblocking hosts files and adblocking dns can be helpful for machines where you cannot install adblockers directly as well.

In my case I have all DNS requests on my entire network forced to go through my router first where it can tell the computers on my network that ads sites' IP addresses are 0.0.0.0. Sort of like PiHole, but I'm using OPNSense to actually force a specific DNS server on all machines through firewall rules.
