Quibble - the custom Windows bootloader

Unread post by leothetechguy » 2022-08-12, 18:42

Found it interesting and thought I'd share: https://github.com/maharmstone/quibble

Not only does it add btrfs filesystem support to windows, but also adds UEFI Boot to ReactOS. (The open source windows clone being in Alpha since 24 years)

Pity it only supports Windows 10 up to 2009 which is a few years old by now.
As for reactOS i'm really really disappointed in them. I've been a big proponent of what they have been trying to do, but in the end they just... didn't use the momentum they gained at one point in time with getting crowdfunding flowing which then resulted in.... no progress to speak of, and stubbornly staying on an NT5 kernel level.

I thought ReactOS updated the kernel compatibility... did I misread? Wish I could find that news, but now I'm doubting it is even existing.

The ReactOS kernel currently targets NT 5.2 and supports both x86 and x64 platforms.

So in 2022 they target compatibility with an application level and a Windows kernel that has been EoL for 8 years.

Judging from the commits and bug reports, 21H1 is supported in master while some are even running it on Windows 11.

Time for a new release, then?
