A Good Find

Unread post by Night Wing » 2022-07-25, 16:28

Since this Off Topic forum has a topic about smart televisions, I thought I could "fudge" this topic in this forum.

This past Saturday morning there was a garage sale sign at the entrance to our subdivision where I live. With the address on the sign, I made my way down to where the garage sale was.

There were quite a few people already there so I took a head count and including me, there were fourteen people. What caught my eye was a table with lots of electronic equipment on it. There was some computer equipment on the table like power cables for desktop computers, HDMI cables too. Two laptops were also sitting on the table. There was a desktop tower computer which had a "SOLD" sign on it.

Since the desktop tower computer was sold, I asked the lady who was in charge of the garage sale if by chance was there an external monitor available, but not on the table. She said there was. Since the monitor was not on the table, I asked where the monitor was.

The lady told me the monitor was "big" and it was in her late husband's computer man cave room. I asked her if I could see it. So she sent her niece to go get it and bring it down to the sale outside. The niece did.

When I saw it, it was "big". It was a 32", ViewSonic VX3276-mhd 1920 x 1080 monitor. I asked her if I could go home; bring back one of my laptops with an HDMI cable, along with a wired USB mouse so I could hook up the monitor to my laptop and see what the monitor looked like when it was turned on. She said, "Sure".

So I beat feet back to my home and looked up the specs on the monitor. Then I beat feet back to the garage sale with my laptop. After hooking the monitor to my laptop and seeing it turned on, there were no dead pixels in it. Not a speck of dust on it either. No dents, no scratches on the viewing screen.

Since the monitor was available for sale, how much? She thought for a moment and said, "$75 cash on the barrel head". I told her the monitor bought new when it was released was well over $200. If someone could find one now, it would probably be right at $200. She said the monitor is really big and takes up lots of space. She told me she wanted to get rid of it so if I wanted the monitor, I could have it for the quoted price of $75.

So I went back home again, dug into my "mad money" and came back to the garage sale. I handed her $150 "cash". She counted the money and informed me I made a mistake since I paid $75 over the price we agreed upon.

I told her, "You wanted $75 and in your hand is $75 along with a bonus of $75 more so take it or leave it". She said to me, "You're crazy". I told her; "Yeah, ain't it cool". We both laughed. So I'm typing this message while viewing this message on this nice 32" monitor. And Pale Moon looks really nice on it too.

BTW, here is a link to it if you want to see it.

These are incredible. I've had one by Acer (not as feature filled as yours) for a couple of years, and I literally wore it out by taking it with me to meetings, because I could put slides and videos on it and a whole large room full of people can see it clearly. I should have just left it on my desk and never taken it anywhere, as it was the ideal sized monitor for me. Now I've somehow damaged it by putting it in and out of my truck and bouncing around on country roads so many times and have a wide stripe of messed up pixels right down the middle. I need to get it fixed or find a new one.
