This reminds me of the time I had studied Egyptian chronology in detail. At different times in their history, the pharaohs would reckon their years in different ways. Sometimes, they would use the British fashion, where a new regnant year begins with the new king’s coronation. (Thus, 1 Eliz 2 is 6 II 1952–5 II 1953.) Other times, they would use the Japanese way, where the year starts on a fixed date and one could therefore have a short ‘year’ indeed. (Thus, Showa 64 is 1–8 I 1989, for Hirohito died a week after New Year’s.) It is maddening.
Life is a fever dream Mæstro would enjoy.

IIRC, Japan records a person's age based on year born.
So you could be born at 23:59 dec 31, and be one year old.
And 2 minutes later you would be 2 years old.

I doubt this advances the discussion any; just thought to throw it out there.
