I can explain what's going on here. Tobin is not working with us anymore, so he reinstated his grant to MyPal because he was hoping it would hurt Moonchild somehow, and essentially imply we were the ones who put him up to revoking his grant so he can be the "good guy" or something, I don't know.
Anyway, the MyPal people followed up on a hint about there having been prior work to generate Rust binaries that can run on XP. So by the time Tobin "generously" reinstated his grant, they didn't care very much because they essentially had Quantum already. LOL. Most people think we're pissed that MyPal went Quantum because it means we failed to kill the project. But really we were more just surprised they pulled it off than anything else, and found it kind of hilarious after all that drama, that they don't need the contested code anymore, especially since it blew up in Tobin's face after he tried to use this to "stab us in the back," in his mind.
So even when he does the "right" thing, he does it for the wrong reasons. There was a scene in Star Wars: A New Hope where Han says, "Jabba, you're a wonderful human being." I think the response to Tobin here should be, "Tobin, you're a wonderful human being." in the exact same tone of voice.

Re: Feodor fixed Mypal to annoy Tobin (no MPL violations)
FTR, I'm not pissed they went Quantum and I never tried to "kill the project" despite some people thinking so. My only issue was with not sticking to the licensing and having to explain to people what it meant that Tobin retracted his grant (because he wasn't going to).
In fact I find it fantastic that they pulled it off and can continue to offer XP users something useful in terms of a browser! Nothing but a
from me there.
I don't find it particularly smart to keep XP systems actively used on the internet, but that's a completely different story and ultimately it's up to them to run the risks they do. At least if the browser they're using in MyPal is somewhat secure, then they are reducing the attack surface. Combined with a good firewall and good best practices for running a vulnerable OS, I'm sure they can squeeze a few more years of life out of their hardware that way.

After the source leaked in 2020, I am sure that, somewhere apathetic about Yankee copyrights, someone is writing XP patches and upgrades and has described how to install them.

Somewhat unrelated, but considering Tobin might have doxed a few people, with the help of 4chan, etc...
I honestly think what Fedor did is the bare minimum with regard to how unhinged he became before Moonchild was forced to ban him, etc...
That being said, I am curious:
For Moonchild:
You don't really need to tell me, but I was curious if that upset you and made you angry at him.
The answer, I seek, isn't one of laughing btw, to be honest, it made me kind of sad...
I wish he could have been seen the writing on the wall and needed some help.
There is no shame in therapy, been there many times.
If you want to message me privately, feel free, I been away for a while, due to some much more minor similar issues. If not, that's fine,
I am thankful you saw common sense and resumed your better ways of doing things.

Btw, in some ways, I wonder if XP, security wise is much different than Windows 11.
Although, if I had to choose between the three, I can tell you all, it wouldn't be windows 11.
*shudders at the thought of needing windows*
Internet connection + windows = Danger Zone
That aside, do trademark licenses help at all with regard to open source any bit extra by adding the restrictions mozilla has added? Same with Rust
3rd and final edit:
I ask, because I am curious what benefit restricting modification of palemoon via trademark, does to benefit you.
There are those who will still violate copyright licenses or trademark licenses, etc...

Unless you wanted to ask something else, in which case I misunderstood and you'll have to clarify
Feodor? I was irate with him, before all that went down, sure, but that was primarily because of what I perceived as mocking of Pale Moon rather than a serious effort to fork (not in a small amount due to Tobin's influence on me and how things were presented). I was never upset about MyPal existing as a concept, after all it was just a continuation of PM4XP, but I guess Tobin's approach to that, in retrospect, was that "if [he] wasn't doing it then nobody else should". Either way, that's been a long time and water under the bridge.

Windows 95 isn't NT-based. XP is. Big difference in how they work so yeah, any Windows viruses would have a tough time targeting something that old.leothetechguy wrote: ↑2022-05-29, 07:02There was a Video of someone trying to install Viruses on Windows 95. As far as a trademark for FOSS goes, that is primarily a mark of quality. I've explained this several times before on the forum, and the GNU philosophy agrees with me on that.
Having a trademark on FOSS means you present it as something that is worthy of a specific label because it meets specific standards in terms of quality, uniformity and usability. In addition, it provides a simple, and easy to understand way for people to direct any support to the right people. That, and to a lesser but still important degree some personal pride and reputation in what's been achieved.

Re: Feodor fixed Mypal to annoy Tobin (no MPL violations)
That applies to trademarks in general. The non software equivalent would be counterfeit goods masquerading as well known brands. People use them, have a poor experience and then blame the original brand. When companies sue to protect their trademark and reputation, of course FOSS projects should be able to do the same.

Of course it does -- but people tend to make the argument that "it's FOSS, you don't have a financial incentive for battling counterfeits, so why bother?"

@Moonchild Actually, I was speaking of Tobin, I noticed you removed some of his components from the tree.
Which I very much understand completely, given he threatened one of your devs, among other things.
Unless I understood wrong...
I have been known to make some assumptions in the past, many times...

Re: Feodor fixed Mypal to annoy Tobin (no MPL violations)
The only Tobin stuff I removed was stuff he either asked me to remove, or the few conditionals specifically catering to the never-yet-released Borealis that he won't be building on UXP any more anyway since he's preferred to continue building on GRE under a different name.
Still not sure what you're asking, otherwise, so it's probably best to just leave it and focus on going forward instead.

Btw, my bad, I had not seen that new thread that said to drop the subject...
I apologize on that...
Have not been active that often since the time long ago, when the repo got closed...
Thank you for enlightening me.
EDIT: there is one thing I did forget though...
It was the comment you left, that made me wonder...
That's all...
Something about, actions have consequences.
If I am misunderstanding though, then its pretty much irrelevant.
Just curious of this, is all.
