Re: Posting my desktop
I just did a trial of Win 11 and it severely underperformed even compared to my fully loaded Win 10. i see no reason to switch over, especially since my hardware is officially unsupported (because silly TPM requirements) and i have no guarantee that it will continue to work.

Concerning the Windows operating system, as far as I can see at the computer repair shop where I volunteer at in the small rural town where I live, there are two main reasons why people stay with Windows and will not switch over to Linux and they are:
1) They need some Windows only programs which will not run on Linux.
2) They are gamers.
Since I do not need some Windows only programs and I'm not a gamer, when I saw the train wreck of Windows 8, it was then I decided to look into some linux distros with the goal of dual booting Windows 7 with a linux distro. I'm not a power user in either Windows or Linux. Far from it. Just a non-technical user.
I knew enough about Windows 7 (my favorite Windows operating system) to not get myself into trouble using it. I thought I could do the same using some linux distros until I decided on one linux distro which would be my daily driver.
Starting in early 2013, I played around with different linux distros and finally settled on linux Mint 14 as my linux distro of choice. Fast forward to today; I am now using, at this time, Linux Mint 21 (Vanessa) Xfce and also dual booting with MX Linux 21.2.1 (Wildflower) Xfce.

Heh, my computer/notebook has a 10th gen Intel core i3 and a measly 4GB RAM available and it really isn't fun to use on Windows 11(neither was W10 tbh, I did downgrade back to 8.1 on my old machine for a smooth experience but this one came with Windows 10 and then upgraded to Windows 11 because it had the bare minimum+TPM and I'm too noob/can't be arsed to go to Linux with all the Office stuff I have)
Anyways, here's my mess of a desktop, on the right stuff I never use, on the left a mess of both. I'm just satisfied that I "fixed" the Windows 11 UI changes I disliked. Simple background from Regular ShowHeh, my computer/notebook has a 10th gen Intel core i3 and a measly 4GB RAM available and it really isn't fun to use on Windows 11(neither was W10 tbh, I did downgrade back to 8.1 on my old machine for a smooth experience but this one came with Windows 10 and then upgraded to Windows 11 because it had the bare minimum+TPM and I'm too noob/can't be arsed to go to Linux with all the Office stuff I have)

Running Fatdog64. It gets loaded from a USB stick and runs completely in memory (less than 300 MB on a fresh boot). Changes are only written to an encrypted save-file on the USB stick if I tell it to, otherwise the session is ephemeral.

Re: Posting my desktop
I recall trying the Chicago95 theme in LMDE and Xfce, but some of the icons in the settings panel were not converted. Does this happen to you, is it a distro-specific problem or could you find some way to replace any anachronistic icons?

BTW, I used to have, so I used, WinAmp, and I used it quite a bit. I even wrote some AutoIt code to run it 'by itself'.. I liked the visualizations and that they could be affected by a sound (or other input) source. I sorta miss it..

I couldn't figure out who they were, thought maybe it was a young Ann and Nancy Wilson from Heart. But no, it's rock's new great sister band - Larkin Poe. The Lovell sisters. Very cool, I'm discovering their music, thanks for posting this mysterious picture.

They really rock! I see some people calling them a modern female Allman Brothers band, and that's appropriate with the emphasis on slide guitar and the strong vocals and lyrics.somdcomputerguy wrote: ↑2023-01-27, 22:03Yep. Re: Posting my desktop
My current Windows 10 desktop. A mix of Xwidgets (javascript), Yahoo Widgets (javascript), one VB6 rotating earth widget, and my VB6 dock at the bottom.
I am overhauling the Xwidgets and then testing them for running on Ubuntu/Wine. It has proven successful in operating these javascript windows widgets on Wine. Quite a surprise...
The dock uses GDI+ to place the resized PNGs on the Desktop with some resizing animation, VB6 is merely the logic glue. The rotating earth widget uses a different graphics framework, ie. Cairo for future cross platform compatibility. Just experimenting.

My desktop is 4K and so needs to have the screenshot resized resulting in blur... apologies for that.

That won't sow the original res either because imgur injects its webUI around it even if linking directly to a .jpgyereverluvinuncleber wrote: ↑2023-05-10, 11:03The original higher res is here:

Re: Posting my desktop
I suppose that's not too much of a problem, if people look to closely they might see my graphical mistakes. Can't have that.
