Posting my desktop

Post by yereverluvinuncleber » 2021-04-14, 22:11

There was an old thread named "Post your desktop" and I was just about to post my recently changed and updated desktop but the thread was locked so here is a new thread where I am posting my desktop.

Image

This is My Dell e6410 laptop with a 1440 x 900 screen, so not a lot of screen space - but all that you see sits underneath all your normal Windows one level above the desktop. It all works and operates, all dynamically updating and nothing static and nothing just for show. Uses no more than 20% when running two browsers and VB6 IDE x 2, Thunderbird &c, the RAM usage is quite high due to the number of tabs I have open and the size of my VB6 code, the widget footprint in RAM is quite small. The dock below is the latest version of my own SteamyDock nearing completion.

The dock cogs show that I have both Firefox and Palemoon running...

Feel free to post yours!

This was actually my desktop and theme for the Winter, but I have yet to change it. I probably will do so very soon.

Nothing special here. I'm not one of those creative people at r/unixporn. :) Wallpaper is from Endless Sky, which is a free, spiritual successor to Escape Velocity.

This one: https://old.reddit.com/r/unixporn/. If you're using *nix and like customizing stuff, I'm pretty sure you'd love that subreddit.

Below is my newest Desktop photo. It is a photo of a CJ Nelson "Outlier" 7'6" x 22 1/4" x 2 7/8" @ 51.7 liters single fin niche prone surf longboard which is inbetween a high performance longboard and a nose rider. This particular surf longboard was built with Thunderbolt Red Technology which I like.

This board was given to a guy whose other brother owned it and wanted his younger/older brother to test it out. The brother is used to shortboards and he had trouble trying to surf this niche board after two surfing sessions. Of course, he never gave enough information about what size fin the board was installed with. Fins are very important since they can turn any surfboard from a "sow's ear into a silk purse" with the right size fin. But the right fin length is also predicated upon a person's individual weight in conjunction with the length of the surfboard and the liters of volume in the surfboard.

After reading more of this guy's messages, he finally said he was using an 8" fin length from one of his shortboards and at his weight of 215 lbs. In other words, I knew he had the wrong fin size for the length of this niche prone surf longboard and liters of volume for this particular board at his weight. The correct fin length for this niche board at his weight of 215 lbs is a 10" length. He eventually tried a 10" fin length on his third surfing session and he was ecstatic how the board surfed with the new fin.

BTW, if this would have been a CJ Nelson "Parallax" 9'3" x 23 1/2" x 3 3/16" @ 78.8 liters single fin niche prone surf longboard in Thunderbolt Red Technology, I would have sent him a private message and offered to buy it since both brothers didn't know they had an "uncut diamond in the rough".

I liked the photo of his board with the 10" fin and I added it to my collection of single fin niche longboards and made this my new Desktop photo.

Well, I suppose it takes all types... 16bit minecraft graphics and a surfboard on your desktop and I thought mine was strange.

It's clearly not a real desktop. Say, SkyPeppers, how old are you, actually? Because your recent posts are extremely juvenile.

I really miss Aero and Windows 7 :(
Especially when you press windows key + tab and get a transparent carousel of open windows. Imagine dumping all those gorgeous visual effects and shiny 32 bit color icons for so called 'simple' and flat Windows 8 onwards.

If you are a creator be wary of using Linux because you might spend your time tweaking. If it isn't the GUI, it will be something else. Wouldn't it be cool if my desktop looked like OSX with Big Slur icons? Oops, another day gone.

Yes it is. I use the Qt5 gtk2 style so FeatherPad has been themed by my gtk theme which is a tweaked version of Mint-X-Grey. I really like FeatherPad or Qt applications in general (but not KDE applications).
