Luca Turilli - War of the Universe

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBRyCSFmdpM

This song makes me think of abstract conflicts... not like active conflicts where people fight each other, but ideas and principles battling for supremacy.
"The Athenians, however, represent the unity of these opposites; in them, mind or spirit has emerged from the Theban subjectivity without losing itself in the Spartan objectivity of ethical life. With the Athenians, the rights of the State and of the individual found as perfect a union as was possible at all at the level of the Greek spirit." -- Hegel's philosophy of Mind

Since I do not have a backup SSD for my 14" HP dv4-5113cl laptop, I decided to go down to the computer repair shop where I volunteer at and purchase a SSD. I have the key to the shop along with the digital key code to disarm the security system. I need a backup 2.5 SSD and decided to install 64 bit MX Linux 23.2 (Libretto) Xfce on it.

We got some new, still in the box, Hewlett-Packard Micron 5200 Sata Gb/s 2.5 SSD's in. These SSD's are a Enterprise model, made in Singapore. I also wanted to pick up a metal hard drive 3.5 cradle where one can place a 2.5 laptop SSD in them and then insert it a 3.5 size hard drive bay in a desktop tower computer.

When I got to the shop I walked up to the front door. The lights were on in the shop and I heard music coming from inside the shop. The glass on the door and the windows was vibrating.

Once I got inside, the owner (my next door neighbor) was there working to get a business computer finished because the business owner was coming in at 10:00 am to pick it up. And I recognized the song. I told the owner (my next door neighbor)...........excellent choice for background music when one is working.

The music was loud and it was coming from one of the shop's desktop computers which had my music library in it. There were two huge floor speakers hooked up to that computer. It was a great oldie song from 1982. Still sounds great today even after 42 years.

So I paid my neighbor for the SSD, hard drive cradle and left. The song when I entered the shop was the one below.

Golden Earring - "Twilight Zone" (Extended Version w/Lyrics).

It is not the genre of the type of movies I like to watch. I like sci-fi movies, action movies, etc.

For me, this movie was about a woman heading to New York to become a songwriter. Just not my type of movie. Good songs in the movie though.

If I had to choose between Coyote Ugly with LeAnn Rimes singing or an old sci-fi movie like Total Recall (circa 1990) with Arnold Schwarzenegger, I'd choose Arnold over LeAnn in the blink of an eye.

I understand.
In terms of Sci-Fi, I only like the Charmed series.

At the computer repair shop where I volunteer at, we had an older customer who came in and bought a nice HP desktop computer. He talked to the owner of the shop (my next door neighbor) and he said the desktop tower was going to be his wife's computer since she had come into the shop and picked out the tower a few days earlier.

She wanted two linux distros to be installed on two separate drives. And the linux distros needed to be easy to learn learn since she was coming over from Windows 7. The owner of the shop called me at my home and told me the details and asked if I could come down to the shop and take care of the gentleman. I told him I would be down there within 20 minutes of time.

After talking to the customer, I put two SSD's into the hard drive bay and loaded one drive with 64 bit Linux Mint 21.3 (Virginia) Xfce and the second drive with 64 bit MX Linux 23.2 (Libretto) Xfce. I configured both distros so his wife would get an easy to learn start and even printed out for the husband some of of the tips and tricks I use for both of my Mint and MX distros.

The husband told me his wife wanted a music library on both of the distros. But she wanted the "oldies" type of music I listen to. So I copied my entire music library and put them on those two linux distro drives. No charge of course.

The husband also told me he and his wife were coming up on their 50th wedding anniversary and since he and wife like to slow dance in their home, he asked me if I knew of a good oldie song to dance to on there special anniversary. The song had to have very good lyrics, a "meaning" to the lyrics, a soft and mellow feeling to it with good music.

I knew exactly which one he might like and so would his wife since I played this song for my wife on our 50th wedding anniversary back in December of 2023. So I played this song below for him. He said it was "PERFECT". And the video for this song is below.

Glenn Frey - "True Love".

I was looking for an "off line" calendar which was "not" connected to the internet since I am not fond of Hotmail's calendar or Gmail's calendar. I finally found one which I could install and use on all three of my linux distros I use (Mint, MX Linux, Debian).

I won't give the name of it out right now since I'm testing it out on all of my three distros. If I like it and decide to keep it, I might make a topic on it.

As always, I like to listen to background music when I am on the internet. I was in the mood for some Bob Dylan music. Dylan has a "quirky" sounding voice and without lyrics, sometime it is hard to make out the words when he is singing.

I did find a music video which was made and uploaded to Vevo then ported over to YouTube. The lyrics are close captioned within the song. So this song below will be my song for today.

BTW; if you look closely at some of the people in the video, you'll find some actors you should recognize from films such as Toby Maguire, Robert Downey Jr, Katie Holmes, Rip Torn, etc.

I was cleaning up some of my Bookmarks today. As always I needed some background music. Something with an acoustic guitar in it. Found one I liked and as usual it is an "oldie". But I like the tune. Problem was finding a YouTube video of it with some high quality sound. But I found it.

I was visiting YouTube looking for some more surfing videos. Ran across a nice one with a Bob Dylan background song. However, the song was only a minute and half segment. So I went hunting for it on YouTube to see if I could find a full length version and I was lucky enough to find one with some quality sound to it.

Bob Dylan - "Beyond Here Lies Nothing".

Being fuzzy-headed today I looked through some of my more eclectic music collection to keep on the up and up.

Ran across some game music that they simply don't do any more these days. Given, it's a music-centered game, but still; getting a special mix just for the game with a much more trance-y feel to it was nice.

The song below is considered to be in the jazz genre. I do not play a lot of jazz type songs, but this one I liked. It was being played at the computer repair shop where I volunteer at. The owner of the shop, this song is one from his music library. It is also a cover song.

The song is an old song first recorded by the band named, "The Crusaders".

Barry Leef Band -"Chain Reaction" (Crusaders cover).

I was on my favorite site, YouTube, trying to find a CJ Nelson newly designed surfboard named, the Slasher Low Pro. It is a single fin nose rider with a squared tail whereas CJ Nelson designed my single fin 9'3" Parallax surfboard with a pintail. I do not do any nose riding anymore, but I always like to see the newest of any of CJ's surfboards.

I've seen a lot of reviews by Ian Chisholm who shaped this board whereas my Parallax was shaped by Ryan Engle. But I could not find any good surfing videos for the Slasher Low Pro. I finally found one and it had some very nice background music with it.

When I heard the background music, I immediately liked it's soft tune. So I decided to see if I could find a music video for the music and I did. The video below is best seen in full screen mode and 1080p HD mode because of the beautiful natural scenery in it.

I have had a cataract in both my left and right eyes for the past eight years. A cataract has to be a certain size before an ophthalmologist will remove them and put a new lens in the eye.

In cataract surgery they deaden the eye and the patient is put under a mild anesthesia where the patient is still awake, but woozy. I've been seeing my ophthalmologist for the past 24 years. He likes to play music in the pre-op room for his patients. He told me music helps the patient relax since the patient knows they will be awake for the procedure.

He told me what type of music I like and I told him my favorite music is from the 60's, 70's and 80's. He told me he will find and play some music from those eras in the pre-op room for me until I get wheeled into the OR (operating room).

So on May 16th, I had the cataract removed in my left eye and a new lens installed in the eye. When I was in pre-op, I heard some songs from the eras I liked. This song was one I heard and it was one of my favorites when I was in my teens.

The Yardbirds - "Heart Full Of Soul".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pM1qZBFiOLU

BTW, I had the cataract in my right eye removed on May 30th. More songs from those era's too and that will be in another post later in this topic thread.

Continuing along with my right eye surgical procedure, I again was in the pre-op room for about 25 minutes. As before the music was playing to help me relax before I was wheeled into the operating room. The music playing was from the 60's. Nice mellow songs which I like.

To make this post short, I chose this song to play today since it was the last one played and then I was taken to the operating room.

The Drifters - "Up On The Roof".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_ksNvivbEI

Edit: BTW, I saw my eye surgeon yesterday and after having some tests on both eyes, I now have 20/20 vision in both of them. The marvel of medical science keeps marching on. The last time I had 20/20 vision was waaay back in 1959.

I now have to get used to the "bright" of daylight since my daylight has been quite dim for decades. Also, the colors of everything are so vivid and everything is so distinct in their shapes.

But, and there is always a "but", my eye surgeon told me I cannot go surfing until September 1st. To quote from an old saying, "Good things come to those who wait".
