With a cool front which arrived Thursday morning to signal the start of Fall which finally broke the back of a long hot summer, today's temperature is very mild right now with a high temperature forecast for this Friday to be around 85 degrees F.

And that means the wind has returned and for me, that is great news for me to go surfing. To get my juices flowing for my surfing session for next week, I need a little music. Music which is hard sounding with a solid beat.

Nickelback - "San Quentin".

Where I live in southeast Texas, we had two cool weather fronts come in on Thursday and yesterday, Saturday. These two cool fronts broke the back of Summer when it was very hot starting at the beginning of July and lasting all the way through September. During those months, the heat indexes reached to 118 degrees F. The temperature right now as I type this post is a chlly 49 degrees F.

With the above said, it is now surfing weather for me. I checked the long range wave forecast and it looks like this upcoming Wednesday is going to be surfing day. The waves are forecasted to be height from 3.5' to 4.5' which will be perfect for me.

I will be going down to surf the waves at my favorite beach which is Quintana Beach on the upper Texas Coast. Since I have been surfing since 1965 till the present, this means I have been surfing for the last 58 years.

I'm now 73 years old and when I go down to Quintana Beach, I am always the oldest surfer there. Since I thought of this, I started to remember an old surfer song, The lyrics in this song really hit me and could have been written about me. If you listen to the song till the end, you'll hear the surf. One of my favorite sounds. BTW, this song has mellow feel and sound to it.

Jimmy Buffett - "The Oldest Surfer On The Beach".

Went to the cinema to see Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour film, and while I am not one of the "swifties" (a self-proclaimed fan), after the movie I have been enjoying her latest release, Midnights.

I woke up this morning around 5:00 am. After awhile, I went to the fridge and realized I forgot to pick up one of my favorite items from the grocery store last Friday. Since I knew the store would open at 6:00 am this Sunday morning, I got into my truck and went on down to the grocery store.

It was 5:40 am when I got there so I decided to wait at the door so I could get in at 6:00 am. While I was waiting, I noticed through the glass windows of the front doors the stocking crew were working the overnight shift and they were still stocking shelves.

The manager of the overnight crew knows me so he opened the door and let me in before the store officially opened. The stocking crew brings it's own music with them when they work the overnight shift. They pipe the music over the store's PA system and listen to their "vibes".

The type of music they were playing was "heavy metal". The manager told me this type of music seems to make them work faster. I recognized one song and the band and it is below. BTW, when the store officially opened at 6:00 am, the "heavy metal" music was stopped by the day manager.

Gravity Kills - "Enough".

To kick off 2024, I downloaded the live iso of 64 bit linux Debian 12.4 (Bookworm) Xfce to see how it compares with MX Linux 23.1 (Libretto) Xfce and Linux Mint 21.2 (Victoria) Xfce. The only drawback I found was for some reason, the Package Updater is installed, but the icon for it is not listed in any of the menus. Who does things things like that? To keep your system updated, for me it is common sense to have this installed and "Listed" with an icon like it is in MX and Mint in their menus.

Anyhow, I found the solution at the link below. Even though says is it for Debian 11, it works for Debian 12. The launcher icon for it is titled, "package-update-indicator" (without the quote marks) using the Synaptic Package Manager. Follow the prompts to install it, once installed, it will be listed as "Package Updater" under "System" in the Xfce menu (Whisker or Applications Menu). I prefer the Applications Menu. Then I just dragged the icon for it down on the Panel and put it where I wanted it.

After that, I wanted to know if I had "sound" so I went to YouTube and picked the song below to hear if I had sound and I did. So I am posting this message using 64 bit linux Pale Moon 32.5.2 in 64 bit linux Debian 12.4 (Bookworm) Xfce.

Puddle Of Mudd - "Control".

Linked Horizon - Guren no Yumiya

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgAeJxvFubI

I'm listening to this one because I was recently watching Attack on Titan for the first time with a friend. It just paints this really fascinating picture of people hiding behind a series of increasingly high walls trying to protect themselves from these giants that they can't hope to defeat, and slowly losing ground and being humiliated, becoming increasingly desperate to find the means to fight back despite numerous defeats. It seems like it symbolizes... something core to the human experience, something that appeals to me in a way that's hard to quantify. I'd never heard of this anime before somehow, but now the OP and the imagery is stuck in my head.

The obscure NES platformer, Mr. Gimmick was not only very difficult, it also had rockin' tracks.

I happen to have known someone who played this game. When I first watched them play it, I remember being taken by pleasant surprise when the song "Identity Believer" first appeared, during one of the tougher boss fights.

A remake of Mr. Gimmick was released relatively recently.

Suffice it to say that it didn't disappoint.

Of course, "Identity Believer" showed up, too. Although it was now called "Identity Believer, Dream Weaver!"

It's been on my mind lately. So here it is, from the remake:

I have a friend who lives in Florida. I met him a little over a 3 years ago when he visited Surfside Beach, at the small community at Surfside on the upper coast of Texas. Because of me and he is close to me in age, since he knew I surf waves with my two standup boards (sups), he took up standup up paddle boarding and paddle board surfing.

He visits YouTube and Vimeo with his stand up tower computer looking for paddle board surfing videos. He found this video below and sent me the link. The background music for this video is the same Jimmy Buffett song I posted in this forum back in October of 2023. And I sent my friend a personal phone call thanking him for sending me the link to this video. So this will be an encore song.

I also surf waves with my two, 10'5" x 32" x 4.5", 190 liter volume standup paddle boards. Since both boards are identical and have 5 fin boxes in them, I surf them as a 4 fin quad fin setup (2, 5" & 2, 4") side bites, no center fin in the long center fin box.

I post many prone longboard surfing videos in this forum with nice background music (in my opinion) in them, but rarely do I find a paddle board surfing video with good background music with them. As always the song will be for the users in this forum and the actual paddle board surfing video will be for "me".

Best viewed in full screen mode and 1080p HD (high definition).

I have been playing around with two linux distros for a comparison between for the two. Debian 12.5 (Bookworm) Xfce and SparkyLinux 7.2 (Orion Belt) Xfce. Since I like to listen to background music when I'm working, I decided to play some Def Leppard music. So I rummaged through my music library and picked out a few songs for me to listen to while I was comparing distros.

The one that caught my ear was the one below so I looped it. An oldie (and a goodie) from 1987.

Def Leppard - "Hysteria".

BTW, I preferred Debian 12.5 over SparkyLinux 7.2 (Orion Belt).

MX Linux 23.6 (Libretto) Xfce w/Pale Moon, Waterfox, Firefox
